VinoCellar was "down" for many people today.. starting around 10am...  it came back around 3pm'ish...  but will be down again later tonight.

Apparently, my ISP assigned my Static IP addresses that should only be used as DHCP addresses.  So they will be re-assigning me IP addresses.

This means more downtime while I work through their mistake.  I'll be changing the DNS to piont to these new addresses when they are finally installed, and then Vinocellar will come back for everyone...  hopefully in a complete manner by tomorrow morning.

All they could tell me was "Sorry for the inconvenience."   Thanks Optimum Online (Cablevision).  I appreciate it.

In any case, it's not a server issue or anything...  it's an ISP issue.

Hopefully we'll not have a longer downtime than necessary.

Thanks for your patience!

could you give us a second address that points to the same (new) address, like www2.vinocellar.com, so we don't have to wait for DNS caches to clear?

Well, apparently the IP addresses are not going to change now....  for some reason they blocked the IPs due to me being assigned the wrong IP block or some crappy story, but it's unblocked now....  and shouldn't happen again.   Grrr...

I'll be keeping a close watch on this issue... and have some higher level email addresses to contact in case something happens.  Not great.. but all I could get out of them.

Sorry for the inconvenience... but at least I can go back to programming my VC Geography Module.

If you were telling me any of this in person I would have the most blank, lost look on my face. Glad I just do wine for a living.

hah. :-) I think that's the same look I get when I read the questions you and your friend go back and forth with while studying.

Anyhow, I prefer to give the details I can for those in IT like I am.... and basically to say "wasn't the server, wasn't the power, wasn't me not paying the bills... just plain wasn't me!"

Of course, when it *is* me I'll admit to that as well.

Brad, I'm seeing quite a slow-down in the site since it went down.  I ran another trace route and it still shows a glitch connecting to your ISP.  More likely your ISP is blocking ICMP but there are still losses.

There seems to be a problem somewhere and it's affecting the site performance.

Those no Responses just mean those particular routers don't respond to ICMP (pinging), and I block ICMP at my firewall also.  From Texas however, averaging 73ms isn't bad at all.  I could still play a decent game of Quake III on Texas servers.  :-)

Apparently, no real changes were made to the routes or anything else.  They had just "blocked" the IP addresses I was using for some lame reason.  All they ended up doing was unblock them..

When I do speed tests of my line out to different sites across the country, I'm fairly consistently getting from 3 to 4 Mbps  (over 2 T-1 lines combined) on the outbound (delivering data to end users) and the indound is always over 15Mbps.

So if there is a problem going to you, I'm unable to test that route and find any issues.  The server is doing very well still also.  See the bottom right hand corner for Page Generation Times...   "Page generated in 0.2125 seconds."

So... that being said... I do believe you, but don't readily see the issue..   so the more information I can get, the better a case I can put together..  so if anyone else if having site performance issues in the last two days... please speak up!    I'm quite insistent when I get on the phone with tech support and get up the chain of useless people pretty quickly.

Page generated in 0.125 seconds.

Nope - 5 seconds in the real world.

Whatever it is it is intermittent so it's nothing that anyone could probably fix.  I'm going to reset my router, etc. from my end and see if that helps.

Heh. yea... the Page Generated is how long the server takes to put the page together, not deliver it.

Tell the people in between NJ and Texas to stop surfing so much food and wine porn.
