Uh, am I the only person seeing a banner at the top of the page in every vc forum I visit? They all seem to be related to Google Ads.

i see them as well. and while i know rev needs to garner some money to make this site work i would be more inclined to have a mandatory fee to use the site then have to put up with these ads. sorry rev, i just thought i'd voice my opinion.

Perhaps you can explain to me a little bit more about what really bothers you?

Seriously though, this site runs in the red every month by over $300... multiply that by the number of months Vinocellar has been alive.... almost 23 now I think....

Just trying to recoup some costs and keep vinocellar alive. What's so bad about that? Who knows, maybe these targeted ads will actually help someone?

I just tried to click the banner ad and it didn't work. Has anyone tried that yet?

The banner ads as you have them displayed now really don't bother me at all.

HOWEVER...

WHEN I CLICK ON THEM IT COMES UP IN THE WINDOW LOSING VINOCELLAR.COM.

PLEASE MAKE IT SO THAT IT OPENS IN A DIFFERENT WINDOW

Whew, for a minute there, I actually thought it was just me. I even started going through and deleting all the cookies in my cookies folder. Good to know I'm not alone.

The ads are kinda funny though - one was selling "Dry Erase Bulletin Boards" (I guess because this is a "bulletin board") and another was for a support group for people with irritable bowels.

The positioning of the ads is certainly irritating. Half of the main VC menu is now below the bottom of the screen, and requires scrolling. Oh well, I'll get used to it. I'm good at ignoring ads.

You are supposed to click on the ads once in awhile to support vinocellar! See? lol.

Cut that out! Now it is at the bottom!

I've compromised.....

I sometimes forget my 1600x1200 screen isn't what other people have.

1600x1200 here as well.

Don't forget the bandwidth either.

The bottom is good, Rev. I have no problem with these.

You want us to go on a link-clicking campaign to help out?

BTW, bottom is much better IMHO.

My screen is a lot smaller. I don't see any banner ads. I have a new computer on order with a cable modem. I guess I'll get them then.

They aren't obnoxious at all. Hell, my mailer puts 3 ads on the side of all my messages, I'll deal.

Problem with the bottom is that the revenues generated will be much smaller. Google only generates money for click - thrus.

Randy is right. I'm all in favor of Rev doing what is needed to keep the site running and evolving.

So the site gets paid only when somebody clicks on one of the ads?
