Brad, if you are checking this section please note that people are having trouble viewing the graemlins.  Some people only see "gibberish".

Maybe it's browser related.  Also as others have noted there are real problems with the Mac browsers and this forum software.

*******************
Seeing gibberish where there should be graemlins.  Test below:

*******************************

On my PCs I see the following gramelins but there are stupid squares in between:

Working:  Maxthon on XP and Vista
                Firefox on XP and Vista
                IE7 on XP

Same when you copy a post from Word into a reply.  There are squares after all of the periods.

Eric White says:
Working: IE7 on Vista
Gibberish: IE6 on XP

Scottj says:
It doesn't seem to make a difference ... at least when reading posts. In this thread, stemor's first post has gibberish while kpak's post shows the emoticon ...

Oops, was reading this using IE7 and saw the different behavior. When using firefox (on this same laptop running XP Pro), both posts show the emoticon. Good thing I have to catch a plane or I'd start trying all sorts of different things ...

Scott

Others - Please chime in with your PC, MAC and browser if you have problem seeing the graemlins above.

Using IE6 here.  It's a company laptop, and they've apparently decided that IE7 causes more problems than it solves.

Does this work, with a space after my last character?

How 'bout this one with no space?

The change in VinoCellar software has seemed to cause frustrating new issues for me, while adding no apparent benefits.  That's my personal experience, of course.  Others surely have better experiences.

Cheers, y'all

I don't think anyone (except obviously Brad) has more positive experiences with this software than you stemor.

same problems that have been going on for a while.

Hate to say it Brad, but it seems pretty universally accepted - the new software sucks big time.

Are you saying that no more software fixes are forthcoming, and we're stuck with this?

My first thought was that starting fresh would be a very bad idea. After thinking about it a while it might be one way to go.

Realistically there were more than a few people who might be interested in posting were driven away by the poor performance of the software in the changeover. And the Search function is beyond bad so there is limited access to the older posts. The big loss IMHO is the older tasting notes. Having to sign-up again is an issue although minor.

You could create new forums on good forum software and call them VinoCellar II (or whatever...) linked to the main VinoCellar page. Run both forums for a while and let us migrate some of the TNs to the new forum. It is easy for me to post my TNs as they are all in CellarTracker but I wouldn't want to lose all of Alohaj's and others' notes.

I might do a cartwheel to get unread post counts back.

Brad, this shouldn't be a continuing problem for you. Maybe better forum software would help. There are people still interested in posting (a core group but pretty fine winos...).

wow, no migration is possible? That really sucks, it would really be a shame to loose all the historical posts.

Migration is possible, but it would cost money.

And sure enough, now it shows up as a broken link - the two posting mechanisms are f' with each other.
