We will bring you to heel.  Software 2.01 - Firefox-killer - coming soon.  Want  to be able to post?  Want to search?  Switch to IE, and we will welcome you  back to the fold.  IWA and Dave will be waiting.Â

The only thing that the new software seems to do that the old software didn't is to improve the delivery of ads.  That may be enough to carry the day.

Is this now a for profit site? Just curious.

As for hosting, you can get a fully functional forums site up and running and hosted for under 30 bucks a month. Cheap.

Search is totally hosed. I'm looking for the stemware damage report thread. One search showed up a thread called "Glassware losses 2005" so I searched for "glassware losses" and got no hits. WTF?

Frankly, Google is an infinitely better tool for searching this forum.

I'll try not to get too "preach-y" here. But this is first and foremost a wine board. People want to know if a wine is ready to drink; worthy of purchase; available in the marketplace; or perhaps they simply want to add a note to an already existing tasting note.  Each and every one of these tasks requires the ability to search efficiently.  Whatever else is being fixed with the new software, the search function has to be the top priority.  We used to be able to put in a key word, limit our search to a particular forum area, and search by user name, all within the same query. And it worked. Until that happens again, this board will never be the same.

I do not necessarily agree with those who believe that a wine board's worth is measured by the number of replies a tasting note generates. Frankly, I see no correlation between the length of a TN thread and the quality of the board as a whole. But if we cannot find threads that mention specific wines, then we cannot use this board the way it was intended, and interest will wane more than it already has.  Please do what you can to get the search engine to be at least as good as it was before. We don't need any "improvement" in that area over the old software.
Beta testing a new signature.

There's nothing more to say Bud. He's already stated we're stuck until the developer makes the next major release mid July. Nothing major happens until then. That is presuming he's on time and doesn't delay for some reason.

So why not make the next best move and invite back some old posters? Zero comments about inviting Board-O, LCC, etc to make this a better place to visit.

Brad, should I/we give up on this request?

Since search isn't getting fixed anytime soon, could one of the moderators possibly fix some of the mis-labeled/mis-categorized posts? This would help us in locating them manually.

In the Burgundy section, the first six posts need to be changed. The three from GD are mis-categorized, the next three I mis-labeled. How come we can't edit a title anymore? Your kokua would be appreciated.

Actually, I've changed the search bar at the very top... it now pops up a google search that only searches the Vinocellar website (and does a great job). However, it currently pops open a new window for the search results.

I'm programming change so it will put the search results into the website in a more normal fashion.... at that point I was going to announce the change....
but doesn't matter if it's known about now other than the behavior isn't quite ideal yet.

Thanks Brad, I have tried the search and still can't come up with tasting note posts, on wines I already know I posted one on.

Brad, I just deleted my posts of the two Champagne threads from GD, on my computer it shows tht it deleted the whole post and not just my reply. Is thisonly showing this way on my computer for some reason, or are they deleted?

This shouldn't be allowed to happen, though it seems it may have... This is obviously bad news! I've deleted posts inside of threads before with no issues... and your browser wouldnt' show a list of posts different than anyone elses.. so this is probably a real problem.

Google takes a few days to catch up....  what terms did you search for that didn't come up and when were they posted?

I was searching for Brewer Clifton, because I know I had already posted notes on those wines. A few others under Burgundy etc that I would have to reference again.
