Can there be a restaurant review section organized like tasting notes ? I suggest by metropolitan area for the US, then other countries..........people can reference it in the dining column, but it might be good to have, easier to reference when planning a trip. What d'ya think ?

Sounds good to me. I've just been posting them in the travel and dining section, but they get lost there.

Also, a separate area for Restaurant Informaion Requests along the lines of the TN Request - Worldwide section would be cool.

After we do all this, can we build a separate section for German Wine in the Tasting Notes categories?
Cheers, y'all

The more I think about this, the more I like the idea. Many of the people here travel a significant amount and the recommendations of forum members, especially given the wine interest, would be a great plus in planning a trip. I used the "notify moderator" button to bring this to our wizard's attention.

Yes, a good idea indeed (I think)...

I'm not sure it's absolutely needed, but it would be nice. Same thing for the German Wine TN section. I remember over on the WS site, we started the idea of 'Where - Suchandsuchplace' where a thread would be created for every town/city/state whatever. If this does come about, perhaps we could model the 'regions' the way eGullet.com does --

USA
--New York
--New Jersey
--Pennsylvania
--New England
--DC & Delmarva
-- Southeast
--Louisiana
--Texas
--The Heartland
--California
--Pacific Northwest & Alaska
--Hawaii
--Caribbean & US Virgin Islands

Canada
--Montreal, Quebec, Eastern Canada
--Vancouver, British Columbia & Western Canada
--Toronoto, Ontario & Central Canada

Europe
--UK & Ireland
--France
--Spain & Portugal
--Italy
--Elsewhere in Europe

India, China, Japan & Asia-Pacific
--India
--China
--Japan
--Australia & New Zealand
--Other

Mideast & Africa

Latin America
--Mexico
--Central & South America

Some of these might be broken down too much for our purposes here, I am sure. But perhaps some of the les traveled areas could be lumped into a more general category, while the US, Canada and Europe are fleshed out.

Just a thought.

I'm not helping my particular interests here, but considering this is a wine forum (so we can't expand non wine related topics too much) and taking into account the experiences and interests of most of the forumites here, probably the "rest of the world" (Europe/Pacific Area/Latin America/Africa) could all be grouped in the same cathegory, leaving only the US (and also Canada? ) regions more detailed/broken down.

As long as everyone is putting in the 2 cents... We don't even know if Rev really wants to do this...

I would keep it simple. US, Europe, Other. You can read the title of the individual threads. Or use search.

I think it's a great idea if there is a large enough contingent of people (friends) who think it's a great idea. I do think some changes are in order, but what do you say to the people who don't want too many forums?

I think there are more than enough forums already. Its easy to find what you are looking for the way the site is set up right now imo.

Well, the problem with restaurant reviews now is that there isn't one place to go to check a group from a given city or country. Wading through pages and pages of lists of posts when searching can be tedious. There could be one forum with subheadings for each area. I believe that the majority of people here, being concerned about the wine they're drinking, are similarly concerned with their dining plans. When we travel, I look for advice on where to make dinner eservations. I can think of no better place to look than this site.

There is already a travel and dining forum. Run a search within that section for whatever review(s) you are looking for and you will find a review if any such reviews exist. There are not a lot of restaurant reviews generated on this board. Further segmenting the data only increases the likelihood that people will not read/notice a new post.

I think I am going to cast my vote with JonesWineNo1. I already have several places I look for restaurant reviews (including WS and this site) but think that this should be a wine oriented site and restaurant reviews places in the Travel and Dining section. It would be a good idea if anyone posting a review used the state and city in the title, making searches easier.

I'm partially going to side with JW1 on this. What I think is the "travel and dining" section should have another section titled "restaurant reviews". All reviews could be placed here. Then one could just search there for reviews.

For what it's worth, I agree with the people agreeing. It would be an awfully fine division forums, probably excessively so.

And I was kidding about still wanting the German section. Sort of.
Cheers, y'all

That is actually a great compromise.
