In the Tasting Notes section, is there a reason why White Burgs and Red Burgs are lumped together? Given that the names of the wines might not be as familiar to as many users here and don't always suggest the varietal, wouldn't it make sense to have a home for each?

Because they are not produced in CA and as such most people don't care whether they are lumped together.
I am kidding.
I am fine with them being lumped or seperated. I can see the benefit though to those that aren't familiar.

Adding more forums is great for people who only read some of the forums, but slows things down for people who generally read all of them.

Not sure I follow. Reading 20 posts takes the same time irrespective of where they are. The only variable is the time needed to access the thread. The time it takes me to go from California Red to California White is measured in tenths of a second. So too would be the time it takes to go from Red Burgundy to White Burgundy.

I think we'll end up with way too many fora. The best option would be to have a "post icon" representing a red wine glass and a white wine glass that we would use every time we post a TN (post icons are those we should when writing a post - e.g., I chose a question mark as the post icon for my post). That way people would have this information just by browsing the forum. And it would give some use to post icons - right now I never use them for anything.

Moving between the forums takes extra time, not noticeable over broadband but much more noticeable over a slow link. I've spent time reading vinocellar at 12K baud, fortunately not a frequent occurrence but the extra time is noticeable over 28K lines or high latency connections (eg, cell phone) as well. If several of forums have only a few posts, only some of which interest me, much of the transit time between forums ends up being wasted time. For the people really interested in the Burgundy forum, they probably can tell the whites from the reds most of the time.
It's a matter of personal preference rather than logic, but I think VC has already been segmented into too many separate forums.
