On the Squires board there is an option to automatically quote a post (click on the "'s above the post). Is there any way we could get this on vinocellar.

The option already exists. Just look in the Instant UBB Code box under where you type your post.

This is correct, but on the Squires board the quote is automaticlly filled in. You don't have to cut and paste the text into the UBB code. I'd like to see the quote filled in automagically.

skwid, to be honest, the constant use of quotes is the one thing I don't like on the Squires board. People use it attack another's statement and it gets pretty confrontational even in a moderated board like Squires. It also adds a lot of length to the thread because half of it is quotes from previous posts.

If it is used judiciously, it can be useful, but it is easily abused.

gatc-i am glad that i am not the only one who feels that way about the constant use of quotes. once in awhile it is ok, but on the squires board, there are threads that are more quotes than posts.

I agree with GATC and Ojeffso with not always using quotes. The Squires board is filled with interesting threads that are too many pages long because of the obsessive use of qutoes.

Again, the work "judicious" is critical. I think it is extremely useful if you are addressing a specific point in a previous post (particularly when the previous post is quite lengthy). It becomes useless when it is overused, or when the entire previous post is quoted (as is the case so often on the Squires board).

It also doesn't allow me the opportunity to misquote someone on purpose.

Tht is where a 'threaded' view would woprk better, if folks worked in that medium. I think people can get it if you refer to them what you are talking about. I mean, cut and paste works great if a quote is really needed....
