The comment was re Stemor's provincialism accusation not the concept of adding two more categories (one would think we would have to retain a Europe other for Porteguese, British etc wines).

It is clear that the Left Coasters except GATC are not doing such and hence their nay votes; but this is a site founded by East Coasters who more and more are trying these wines, whether its' because of access [ or lesser access to Cal.] or taste preferences.

Yes, this is clearly reminiscent of the East Coast - West Coast rap feud of the late 1990's. We don't want Jones ending up like Tupac in Vegas; or Dr. T. like Biggie!

As far as the number of forums: you've got 16 different Tasting Notes forums now. Adding 2 more isn't going to radically change things.

While tweaking the site, get rid of the Wine Industry Special Guest forums; or combine them into one forum. No one ever posts on them...

I am on the fewer forums side, but I have a question. Are there really more Rhone TN's posted than German TN's?

Since 4/1/2004, less than 20 Rhone threads have been posted to and more than 30 German threads have been posted to. For that matter, I think there have been more German TN's than Burgundy TN's in that time.

I don't know if that is representative of the overall posting volume or any other important statistic. But if Germany does get more action than Rhone or Burgundy, even if you think there shouldn't be any more forums, doesn't it seem one logical conclusion would be to give Germany a forum and take away Rhone or Burgundy?

BTW - I voted for no new forums, and I am content now. However, if new Forums are created, I vote to axe old forums that are not used as frequently.

good point ray. seems like more people are drinking germans and spainish wine then rhones and burgundies. maybe they should be put into france other and 2 new ones created for germans and spaniards.

I am uncomfortable by the thought of Germany taking over French forums.

i agree, i am just trying to make a point. these 2 regions have seen their popularity skyrocket in the last few years. i feel it is time for them to be recognized.

I'm glad to see my "provincialism" (from Websters: "Limited in perspective; narrow and self-centered.") didn't stir up any provincial responses.
Cheers, y'all

Having voted strongly for a separate Spain section, I must admit that being forced to stare down some Reislings is educational. This is akin to going to the library and browsing - the charm of finding random information which captivates you.

So, having said that, I am not sure if I really do want a separate section - while this lazy-ass would love to scan the priorat tasting notes, maybe what this lazy-ass needs is a German education.

Anyways, I havent seen a verdict or a comment from the "bossman" or the "powers that be" on this topic.

This is a forum of the people!! (mostly)

I'm letting you all battle it out first.....

So far... I see there being more resistance if we didn't create it compared to the resistance we'd get if we did create it.

However, there is the logistical issue of moving all the threads to the appropriate forum after they are created.

Who would take on this challenge if they were given authority to do it, and complete it within a reasonable amount of time?

Rothko, knowing you & your style (sense of humor) going back to the WS days... I got it!

Rev: if that does happen, I will help also.

Rev,

As much as I've been in Newark lately, I feel like a local. I'd be glad to do the grunt work ... and I'll be in town from 6/22 -- 6/30 in case I need a training session.

Well, most of my time will be spent at Carol's family camp in Split Rock (Pocono Resort), PA ... but I'll be at EWR the first two days on business.

If nothing else, can we get together for some wine on 6/22 or 23?

Steve

Well at least I'm glad I made some good points!

One other benefit of splitting the Spain, German. Several years from now if one wants to refer back to TN or compare a vertical with original TN postes previously, tracking thru one region's 10-11 pages is easy. I realize there is a search function but timing use of this function and then checking individual threads back and forth is not necessarily a big time savings

stemor, Slan will be in NYC on the 23rd. I probably can't make it, but there's a thread on the WS site about it.

Thanks for the response - good note on the role of moderators. I was just checking to see if you were monitoring the thread

FWIW, I'd also like to see a separate section for German wines. They get about as much respect here as with the paltry selection at Total Wine.
