WARNING: Do not read this thread if you are not tolerant of those who may enbibe a little more than what is normally deemed nescessary!
--------------------------
Here are some of the gory details.

It wasn't the wine that made this event sing (well maybe a little), and the fact that it was in my humble abode... IT WAS THE PEOPLE! What a great group each and everyone!

MBansek and guest
Stemor (never gives up)
GFleener (and better one and three quarters)
EricW (barefoot in the cellar) and Teri
EricL (Coffee-master extrordinaire)
NCVL and Madame NCVL
Lafon Rochet and Amy
Jlaube (No show)
JW1 (Yes?)
Mr. and Mrs. tklien
Sociando_Dehlinger (designated driver - ha!)
GATC (sure has great Deutsche liquid)
Skwid (Sweet talker)
Brother Skwid, and SIL Skwid (I think they have been converted
TriciaN (I think she was there)

and then me, the pleasure wal all mine. Thank you everyone. Truely a great night except for....... well, we won't tell anybody who wasn't there about those seven little incidents that... well... just remember that what happens at davidn's stays at davidn's. Stick together gang!
-----------------------------
Here is the list for the tasting:

------1st flight - Pinot Noir
2000 Siduri Pisoni
2001 Tandem Pisoni (#2WOTF)
1997 Marcassin Marcassin (1bottle corked)

2000 Montelena Estate
2000 Philip Togni

2000 Switchback Ridge (WOTF) (one bottle corked)
--------------------
And here are the empty bottles that I found this morning:

2001 JJ Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spatlese
2002 JJ Christoffel Erben Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese**
1986 magnum (talk about putting the Albino bottle to shame) Smith Madrone Riesling
Osterreich Gold Select (with 23 carat gold floating in it)
1999 Talbott Chardonnay cuvee Cynthia
SQN Albino (three bottles!)
1999 Savigny-les-Beaune "La Dominode"

I know we had more that just these listed above. I did see more than one leave with a roadie bottle.

p.s.
I feel great this morning. Did I drink anything last night?

Davidn, the port was a 1970 Taylor. You should be able to piece this together from the branding on the cork shards (the cork didn't come out in one piece).

The Smith Madrone, think Riesling Bottle but in Magnum size. It was JW1's favorite wine of the evening

Where was the bottle of 1995 BV GDL? Or did Lafon decant that at home?

Where did the third bottle of Albino come from? I brought two of them. Did we get into a third? If so I guess people must have liked it.

The 1995 BV was in the duck decanter, though I do not know when it was decanted. It was stunning stuff.

Davidn, I feel great this am too! I am really glad to see the Hacienda was your wine of the night . That was one interesting wine.

I am serious, did not seem like a bad bottle, just bad wine. Vegetal and harsh. JW1 pegged it with the Jalapeno descriptor. I believe he gave it a 78, which I consider generous.

She decanted it when she got here. It had a good hour and a half in the decanter. It was absolutely beautiful. It was the best cab I have had in days (LOL it would be years if I hadn't had a 1997 Grenock Creek Tuesday night).

With you-know-who Bogarting the Albino I grabbed one of my bottles out of the cellar and made sure everyone got at least an ounce to taste. Your two bottles went... well, haven't you ever heard you are only supposed to fill your wine glass up half way at the most?

I gave the Togni a 78 in Oeno-File. I agree with Eric it was worse than a 78 last night. Smoky Jalapeno with cheese.

Yeah, that JW1 guy sure wanted a full glass of the Albino. That bottle you were waving around sure did look full. I was wondering what happened with it. Perhaps the other tables didn't want any It was quite good though and I'm sorry I didn't buy the full case when I had the chance. But there is plenty of good wine out there so I'm not losing any sleep over it. The good thing is the bottles are a pain in the a** to store so going through them will get rid of the "problem" bottles plus it tastes really good right now so I might as well enjoy them.

Btw Davidn my brother and his wife had a wonderful time and really enjoyed themselves. They really liked sitting with you.

Someone should have a chat with Marcassin.

Great line-up and write-up. Davidn is truly the host with the most. Hospitality that is.

Great to see the 95 BV GDL showing so well. I thought it was pretty excellent stuff when I had it in October.

Sounds like a superb time. I envy all those who attended...

davidn's unsurpassed hospitality & generousity are only matched by the same qualities in trician . these 2 wonderful people made their home available again to a diverse group for an extrordinary wine tasting & dinner, they supplied all of the wines for the tasting, many of which i could never afford myself, arranged the catering & made preparations that i am quite certain none of us knew. we at vinocellar, especially here in the bay area, are truly blessed to be able to associate with such wonderful people. of course the guest list was pretty incredible as well, so much wine knowledge in one room ! there were many strong opinion & convictions flying around the roomwithout any animosity! during the tasting, i actually sat between jones & gatc; at the same table with stemor, skwid, eric white, lafon rochet.... i switched tables for dinner so katy & i could sit together & with our friends tiklein & cynthia. at our table as well were norcalvinolover & madame norcalvinolover & mr & mrs mbansek. everyone brought great wines for dinner & i hope someone actually kept track of them. davidn kept going into his cellar for more & more treats .

it was a wonderful night ......it was almost like christmas or my birthday or something . i brought 2 bottles of wine & left with 30 (plus 6 for tedf), a great cd filled with wonderful mp3s that norcalvinolover made for me (someone he had never met in person) & a 2-bottle shipper (that i will use to send maineiac the spoils of our nfl playoff bets) & a very nice cigar . i can't thank davidn enough for the generousity of hisdumps, (& the extras he always seems to slip in there). i need to thank gatc for the wonderful bottle of riesling he gave me

hopefully i can return this generosity one of these days .

The '95 BV GDL was in the duck and I did not decant it at home, but just popped it there. It seemed to get better and better throughout the night. I've been wondering about this wine for awhile so I thank David N for allowing me to share it at his event and giving me feedback on it. I think it was ready to drink now or could be held for another 2-3 years.

obviously that didn't work. katy took a few pictures & they can be viewed athpphoto. use gfleener as the username & gfleener as the password. there are only 4 or 5 photos from the tasting & they are in the album named 0104. everything else there is just family photos. feel free to look to your heart's content.

Jones (I just remembered), correct me if I am wrong. But, didn't you post similar TNs/thoughts about the 00 Togni (6-8 months ago or so)?

If so, that will make this the 2nd bottle that did not show very well. If that is true, I will put my 2 bottles for sale & hope to recover some $$$.

Not sure what happened there (with the 00 Togni). Very uncharacteristic of Togni.

Gus...

Great shots. Just two things I'd like you to try to provide...

1. A who's who. I recognize you and davidn, but not most of the others.

2. Please provide a count of the number of glasses used during the evening.
If I had that many, I think I could open a retail business!!
