Wow, what a great night!

First, a huge thank you to Petey for an excellent job coordinating the tasting last night. I sat at a table with Rev, Budman and Mrs. Budman (who has a fantastic palate and whom I EXPECT to see posting here) and Sam Gugino from Wine Spectator. Sam was a very charming guy and it was great talking wine with him.

Jorge was a very charismatic. Loved to hear him talk about the different regions, the climatic factors and history of wine in Spain. Here are the wines we had...

'98 Marques De Gelida Sparkling Wine
'01 Las Brias Rueda
'01 Muga Blanco Rioja
'01 Vina Godeval
'01 Borsao - which showed way better than my last tasting of it
'00 Numanthia
'00 Alvear Pedro Ximenez

In addition, budman, Rev and I won an action of a magnum of '99 Numanthia signed by Jorge. We will get together in a few years and enjoy it. Great night.

Congrats on the Mag, for sure!!!

Question: I did not know that they offer Mags. Is this something that an individual can buy (somewhere)?

I believe Jorge said there were only 16 and now we have one of them.

Yea!! GO US! A magnum of '99 Numanthia Toro.... yea baby! Only cost me $70. (Split three ways)

It's signed too of course.

Definitely a great night at Cuba Libre. Petey did a great job, the executive chef there was tremendous too. The Tapas style appetizers were tremendous, as were the rest of the courses. The Numanthia Toro was the standout of the wines (well duh), and I've heard rumor the Termanthia will be making it to the states in a few months. All of 60 cases.... Or was that bottles? Might be a bit out of my price range at the rumored $160/bottle though.

Jorge was indeed a great personality, and apparently he can also talk about things other than wine. I'll post some pictures when I finally have a chance to catch up on things. Been having one helluva wine week. I'll be writing about it soon.

Thanks again guys for coming!! Great to meet Mr and Mrs Budman!! Glad you had a good time and glad it is over Holy stress!!

Well done on the mag!! I knew you guys wouldn't let that one go. Turns out Jorge brought in 16 and, after your purchase, there are 5 left. You guys won't forget me when the time comes to drink it right?

As for the Termanthia, 60 cases coming in and the importer said he would ship directly to me (laws, shmaws). So I'll let you know how much I can get.

Best part for me - I have the last 2 cases of Numanthia in the Northeast and it will be on my wine list!! Yee-ha!!

Hey Rev, what happened to tasting some rum?

Oh, I almost forgot, took Gary (the importer) out afterwards and got him very drunk!! Very funny. He is my new best friend and he wants to send me all kinds of free wine. Love that.

For the '99 Magnum (Parker 95 i think) jorge said there is no need to cellar it. He was suggesting to open and enjoy. Just to savior the moment (long moment) we will probably wait a couple of years before opening.

So who will possess the signed magnum over the years until you get together to drink it?

I have the mag right now. I think we should drink it on this date next year.

Petey, I should have hung out with you afterward. I need Gary to hook me up with a job.
