I'll be in Pasadena, CA 9/22 to 9/25. I'll be working quite a bit Monday through Wednesday, flying out on the morning of the 25th. I was hoping a few So Cal winos would like to get together while I'm in town. Wednesday evening would be best for me if that works for others. Can anybody make it?

TIA

Wow, what a great evening. I had the honor and priviledge of hooking up with a great bunch of wine drinkers. My many thanks to PinotEnvy, HDW, Red4Life, Bdamico, Tbird and all of their wonderful spouses/girlfriend. The food was good, the wines great and the company fantastic. I look forward to hooking up with these great people again on my next trip to SoCal.

Here are the wines in the order I tasted them:

2001 Martinelli Zio Tony Ranch Pinot Noir
2000 Ojai Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir
2000 Martinelli 3 Sisters Vineyard Pinot Noir
1995 Chateau Corbin Michotte
1999 Fisher RCF Vineyard Merlot
1997 Pahlmeyer Merlot
2001 Pride Cabernet Franc
1999 Merryvale Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
1999 Merryvale Profile
1999 Pine Ridge Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon

There wasn't a bad wine in the bunch. As a matter of fact I'd come real close to saying every wine was at least 90 points. Just a wonderful night for wine with great people.

Thanks one and all!

May the schwarz be with you...

OK, I got wineismylife's thoughts on 2000 Martinelli 3 Sisters Vineyard Pinot Noir. Any others what to share theirs?

Damn tbird, you must have been wasted since you took a couple of the pictures! Or maybe you just don't want to admit there is any evidence.

David, we didn't start taking pictures until HDW had already left. We were too busy drinking wine and socializing. I do have a couple of pictures. I'll try to get them uploaded for viewing.

What? Tbird not remember? Impossible!

Reminds me of the famous WISE SAYING:

He is not drunk who from the floor can raise his voice to ask for more.

I didn't take any detailed notes. However, I deliberately saved the Pine Ridge for last because I figured it would be a tannic monster. I wasn't wrong. Tannins are still very firm but there is a sufficient supply of acid and fruit to allow continued aging. If you have only a few bottles I would wait at least 6 months to a year before opening one. If you have plenty I'd go ahead and pop one yourself but plan on at least a hour in the decanter before trying. This puppy still needs to settled down a bit IMO.

I roughly pegged this wine in the 91-92 range based on general impressions. It was somewhere in the area of my 4th or 5th wine of the night.

I was having too much fun to think about pictures but I guess that was my job, being a photographer and all. Next time I promise to bring the camera. I really enjoyed the 200 Ojai Pisoni among the pinots along with the 1997 Pahlmeyer Merlot and 2001 Pride Cabernet Franc.
It was great to meet you WIML, and I am glad to hear you had as much fun we did.
