I've been remiss as of late in publicizing our DAWGS offlines. Can't let those peskly DC guys think they're gaining on us! I'll try to do a better job of posting events in the future just in case there are others out there interested in participating, especially travelling forum members.

I’m truly excited about our August offline. “just a skosh” has graciously offered to host our offline this month and has come up with a wine theme in which I’m truly intrigued. I think it is one of our better themes to date. Here are the details:

  • Date & Time: August 19th, 4:00PM
  • Hosts: just a skosh & the ever tolerant Mr. just a skosh at their lovely home in North Dallas
  • Wine Theme: "Bring a bottle with a story behind it"
  • Food Theme: Hosts will provide steaks, cheeses with crackers, desserts, bottled water and sodas. Guests provide green and starchy vegetables, pre-dinner nibbles, salads, etc...
  • Dress: Very casual, shorts and/or swimsuits with t-shirts preferred. A lot of the party will be poolside.
  • Other: Please bring your own stems.

"Bring a bottle with a story behind it". What does this mean? Well here’s the story. For each and every bottle you bring there must be a story behind that bottle. The story should be something interesting that you’d like to share with the group. Examples of good stories would start with “When I asked my wife to marry me we ordered a bottle of this wine from the wine list at Caruso’s on Northwest Highway. Sadly, Caruso’s is now closed but the memories remain and come alive as though it were yesterday each and every time we open this bottle together.” Perhaps it’s something as simple as “My good friend Michael gave me this bottle the last time we were together. It was a simple gesture in thanks for all that we went through together.” You get the idea! On the other hand, examples of BAD stories are “The wine guy at Centennial recommended it.” WRONG! Ain’t happening! Come up with a better story than that!

Now comes the hard part…there’s homework involved!

You have to either type up or write out your story on a piece of paper and tape it to the bottle you’re bringing. That way anybody that drinks that wine will be able to read the story behind the bottle, discuss it with you if they wish and hopefully share in your memories as well.

We’ll work out all of the details of the food later. For the moment, start thinking about what wine(s) you’d like to bring and more importantly let me know…

WHO’S IN?

Good morning everybody! Time for a quick update of where we stand for the offline:

  • Date & Time: August 19th, 4:00PM
  • Host: just a skosh & Mr. just a skosh
  • Wine Theme: "Bring a bottle with a story behind it"
  • Food Theme: Hosts provide steaks, cheeses with crackers, desserts, bottled water and sodas. Guests provide green and starchy vegetables, pre-dinner nibbles, salads, etc...
  • Dress: very casual, shorts and/or swimsuits with t-shirts preferred. A lot of the party will be poolside.
  • Other: bring your own stems.

A detail of attendees is below. If you’d like to declare your food dishes at this time to prevent duplicates that would be cool. If we happen to have duplicates of the wines (or you’re bringing two bottles and would like to bring two of the same) I’d say that’s OK at this point in time. Decreases variety but increases the chances everybody will get a shot to taste that lovely wine you’re bringing. With 21 people in attendance and 1 750ml bottle go around not everybody is getting a pour!

IMPORTANT NOTE: we’re capping this event at 22 people total in order to insure there is adequate seating available. We currently have 1 seat left.

Let me know if there are any changes.
