We think we have the first event together:

Date and Time:

Saturday June 17th, 5PM

Location: Mas Haut Tubbee (My place in South San Jose)

Format:

2 flights of 5 wines each, double blind. One non blind to calibrate everyones palate and one cheap ringer thrown in to keep everyone honest. (keeps you from declaring every wine great). We decided to keep the group small so everyone in attendance can sit at a single table and spend some time with the wines.

Welcome Champage. Followed by tasting, then dinner.

Price of admission - one bottle per person.

Theme:

1999 California Cabernets vs 1996 Bordeaux. Price range $40-$125

Logistics:

I have enough large glasses (If you went to DavidN's BBQ these are the same glasses he used there) for everyone, but bring your own if you prefer. PM me your wine so I can prevent dups. Bring your wine brown bagged and decant if needed.

Headcount:
tlily -2
Dave Tong -2
yhnx -1?
DavidN - 1-2?

I'm going to send out an Evite with directions for everyone. I think we may actually be full up at 10 soon.

The calibrator wine will be a 1999 Louis Martini Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon WS 93 points, I'll print notes.

Here's what I have so far:

Dave T - 2 99 Cali
yhnx - ???
El Tejano - 1 96 Bordeaux
DavidN - 2 99 Cali
Tlily - 1 of each, allthough I can fill in holes as needed

I have the blind dead ringer too, an unrated wine in theme that I paid $13 for.

I don't have any wines that are $2.99 or less . I thought you had raised the $ limit.

Kobe beef was $135 for 6oz. I like you guys a lot, but I don't know if I like you $300/lb a lot I went with Prime Rib Eye, but used the extra budget for a little amuse bouche surprise.

Y'All have a great time. I just have too much going on, as we leave very early the next morning for Hawaii. I hope I can make the next event.

The 1999 Abreu is a wonderful wine. It convinced me to sign up on the Abreu list.

add to the list for tonight... (I know, I know... we don't have to drink the whole bottle). Some stuff that I have been wanting to try for a long time now.

2003 Kistler Chard, Vine Hill
2003 Ken Brown Chard, Santa Maria Valley
200? Loring Rose'
2002 Loring Pinot Noir, Clos Pepe Vyd.
2003 Salinia Pinot Noir, Keefer Ranch
2003 Pax "Cuve'e Moriah" Sonoma County Red Wine (Grenache/Mourbedre/Counoise/Rousanne)

I hope someone else is bringing something. Don't forget we have to have enough for 10 people.

tlily will be posting a list of all the wines.

We did two blind flights of CA Cabs and Bordeaux wines (one flight of six and another of seven). My wine of the two flights was the HSS.

Whichever you choose I would decant it for two hours (but not too much longer).

It was a great evening.
