As notedhere I'm trying to keep this neighborhood restaurant open. The winegeeks and whiners are going there for dinner on Saturday the 11th at 7:30pm. Let's turn this into a bone-fide (is that how you spell it?) off-line.

Winegeek suggested I make some wine reccomendations for this type of food...The food resembles Indian food but seems a little less weighty and less fatty. Also, it is not as spicy (hot) and is more nuanced. In terms of wine, I would think Champagne, off-dry Alcasian and German whites, and spicier medium-full bodied Rhone styled reds, or spicier-styled Pinots, would be all be great choices with the one caveat that reds would be better suited to the tandoori grilled meats and not as well suited to some of the curry dishes, especially if ordered hot (which is still, by the way, not what "hot" means in a Thai or Indain restaurant). Virtually all of the dishes would pair well with the whites I suggested with the notable exception of my favorite dish there -- the rack of lamb -- which would pair better with a red.

You can check out their website here (don't worry that the front page says Sonoma -- there is an outlet in Sonoma, too, that apparently does very good business, but that doesn't help me at all)

Assorted details...

Stemware: Their stemware is adequate -- better than expected for a hole-in-the-wall Asian restaurant (aprox. 15oz Bordeaux-styled stems with thinish glass) -- but deffinitely not Reidel or Spieglau quality; so if you want to bring your own...

Location: The restaurant is located in the Marina district on Lombard street between Scott and Divisidaro, on the north side of the street (3 or so doors twards Scott from Blockbuster).

Parking: I've seen a sign in front of the restaurant that says complimentary valet parking (and I think it directs you to the corner of Scott and Lombard) but I've never tried that so I can't say what exactly that is about. There is a public lot on Pierce (one block east of Scott) between Lombard and Chestnut (one block north of Lombard) as well as street parking. Parking can be a bit of a pain on the weekends, however so I'll try to check out what the valet thing is.
I can't listen to that much Wagner. I start getting the urge to conquer Poland.

I'd love to join you guys but have plans Saturday night.

Perhaps we will try it sometime in the future. Hope it stays open, we could use good reasonable priced restaurants in SF...
