| Now that the July offline is successfully in the bag I’d like to do some preliminary planning for our August offline. With summer schedules being as hectic as they are and so many of us dealing with back to school issues I’d like to get this date officially out there so that people can pencil it in on their calendars. This will be ourAnnual Great Steak Out event. Here are the details as they stand at the moment:
Date:Saturday, August 13th. Location: The WIML & PURPLE Beach Side Resort in Arlington, TX. Schedule of Events (come to any or all events as your schedule permits):
3PM – Wine & Cheese Symposium hosted by PURPLE. Take a quick tour of tasting wine alone versus how the wine changes with various cheeses. PURPLE will select 3-5 cheeses and wines for this event.
4PM – Swimming With Wine. Bring your plastic wine stemware and a favorite summer sipper for refreshing dip in the coldest pool in Tarrant County. The prudish among the group can sip their wine poolside while the rest of us are chilling in the pool.
5PM – The 2nd Annual Great Steak Out – Yours truly will be grilling steaks poolside. We’ll be dining al fresco weather permitting so wear those swimming suits or shorts at the minimum! Every person in attendance should bring one bottle of their favorite Steak wine. Anything you like from Cabernet Sauvignon to Barolo to Zinfandel. No holds barred! All bottles will be wrapped in foil and numbered and the wine inside tasted blind. Let’s have some fun with this! No formal tasting notes required just honest impressions. In addition to the wine everybody in attendance should bring at least one pot luck side dish to go with the Steaks (i.e. Salads, vegetables, fruits, cheeses, desserts, etc…).
No formal commitments required this early but if you already know you can make let me know so we can get an early handle on the attendance. Otherwise, I’ll just keep pestering you until you say “YES!!!”

On a Saturday afternoon assuming no accidents and knowing how David drives probably about 35 minutes. The longest it has ever taken me is 1 hour but that was weekday rush hour traffic. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

| Howdy to all of my fellow wine lovers!
We’re a little under two weeks out from our next offline. Here are the details:
- Date: Saturday, August 13th.
- Times:
* 3PM for Wine & Cheese Tasting * 4PM for swimming and poolside libation * 5PM for The Great Steak-out * All times approximate, obviously! - Location: WIML’s & PURPLE's Lakeside Resort & Animal Haven in Arlington, TX. Directions to follow under separate mailing to confirmed attendees.
- What to bring:
* Swimsuit if you plan to swim (you better or no steak for you)
* Wine of your choice to drink & share poolside, 1 per person in attendance * “Steak wine” of your choice for dinner, 1 per person in attendance * A potluck dish consisting of your choice of an appetizer, salad, side or dessert * Bring your own stemware. It is recommended you bring one each Champagne, White and Bordeaux/Cabernet Sauvignon stem per person.
PURPLE will be providing the wines & cheeses for the tasting. There will be 3 wines (Champagne, Chardonnay & Grenache) that will be paired with 5 cheeses. I will be providing the dead cow for dinner. You’re responsible for everything else! Please let me know if there are any dietary restrictions such as you can’t eat grilled dead cow.
The attendee information is listed below. Please let me know at your earliest convenience if there are any changes so that we can make plans accordingly.
Thanks!
Joe
NOTE: We have 3 cats, 1 dog and 2 sons. If you’re allergic to pets be sure and bring your Benedryl…wine and antihistamines make for a wonderful psychotic experience. You take your chances with the children though. Sorry.

| I was debating on that one. I guess so. If we decide to taste the wines blind you'll still not know which one is which so let er rip! | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| Yes, but we certainly don't want to bring duplicates if we can avoid it. Of course, 22 bottles of Caymus, Jones or QC would be ok. | | | |

| Mine is easy...
Cindy is bringing cheese. I'm bringing dead cow.
Wine selections? I'll walk over to the cellar after everybody gets there and pop some corks. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

| As they say in the bars at closing time…”It’s last call”. PURPLE and myself are trying to get as firm a handle on the head count so we can place the order for the cheese and steak. Please let me know if there are any changes to the attendee list below A.S.A.P. Date: This Saturday! No stinking date needed. Time: 3PM for Cheese, 4PM for Drowning, 5PM for Resuscitation Location: You’ll get a map later this week via email, it’s Top Secret! A few things to remember… - Bring your own stemware (1 Champagne, 1 White, 1 Bordeaux/CS recommended per person)
- Bring your own side dish, one per person (still need salad, green stuff and dessert)
- Bring your favorite steak wine(s) and something else light and refreshing to drink poolside beforehand
- Dress casual, shorts are perfect. Let me see those pasty whites!
- Bring your swimsuit or risk being thrown into the pool with your clothes on
By the way, we have a few too many people to effectively do the main tasting blind. So we’ll leave the bottles uncovered this time. Therefore, if couple would like to bring two of the same bottle, feel free to do so. That’ll increase the odds the crowd will get the opportunity to taste those wines. Singles are fine…everybody just won’t get a taste of those wines. Look forward to seeing everybody Saturday!
