I'll be in Houston next week for the All Star game. Was wondering if any of the fine folks in Houston would be interested in getting together. I'll be arriving Sunday afternoon and have Sunday evening open and perhaps Monday (depends on wether I decide to go to the HR derby). I'm staying near the Medical Center. So anyone up for a dinner? Have Krug will travel.

I've still gotta get a ticket to the game but I figure that won't be a problem (then again if any Houston folks have an "in" with someone...).

I hate to miss this but I have a flight booked early Monday morning. Otherwise I would drive down Sunday and come back Monday.

Have a great trip! I'm sure Shannon will make sure you get plenty of wine to drink.

skwid,

It would be great to see you again !

Sunday is bad, as we have family in town. They're leaving Monday, so Monday night may work, if you don't end up going to the HR derby.

Unfortunately I had to flake on Skwid as we had a good offer for a beach house for a long weekend. I couldn't deny it to the four-year old tornado.

Lunch tuesday? Scott, it would be good to see you.

I could do either Tuesday Lunch or Monday dinner (or both!). Let me know and I can bring some tasty beverages along for the ride. On Tuesday I think something downtown would best. That way I can just stay there and head over to the scalper section to get a ticket afterwards (long lunch anyone?).

I could do lunch on Tuesday.

I don't know any BYO spots downtown. I'm not aware of too many in the greater Houston area, for that matter. It usually takes some kind of "connection" to arrange a tasting, and I'm not connected

Winetex, any ideas ?

I had an idea and we now have a reservation at "17" in the Sam Houston Hotel downtown. No corkage if you can believe that! It might be a bit expensive for lunch but what the hay. "17" was just written up in the WS 7/31.

I can always cancel or change the time but I confirmed no corkage and had them reserve us a table for 3 at 11:30. Does this sound OK?

Now the real decision is Krug, Cristal or Dom?

This sounds great Winetex. So should I bring the 1979 Krug or the 1990 Krug?

The next big question is what to do for dinner on Sunday and Monday evenings?

It's your choice - I haven't had either one.

I posted a bunch of restaurantsWHERE Houston for you. Hugo's is really good. Also the South American places where meat is king are different from the West Coast places.

I've not had either of the Krug's either. Since I just purchased the 1990 for immediate consumption (i've got more coming) I'll bring it.

Glad you made it OK !

I need some help figuring out what to bring for lunch ... Sounds like you have the champagne handled, plus I don't have very much in the cellar. It seems my wife looks after it a little too well ...

I was thinking an older CA cab. ... I have an '84 Martha's Vineyard, from a case I recently unearthed in my cellar, standing up that should be nice. I'm not familiar with the restaurant Winetex picked, so something else may be more appropriate. Anything you'd like to try ?

Scott - Sorry I did not respond before this but we just rolled back into town.

Your choice on the wine. I have not been to the restaurant before so I could not tell you. All I know is corkage = 0$$$. The name of the restaurant is "17".

The Sam Houston Hotel is at 1117 Prairie Street. The cross street is probably San Jacinto. There should be valet parking in front of the hotel.

See you guys there at 11:30 tomorrow!

The cross street is San Jacinto. I walked by today and talked to the doorman. The restaurant is just inside the front door and to the left.

Btw, you can't have too much Champagne.

Unfortunately the HR contest lasted too long and I missed getting to Goode Company.

I feel like a Bud commercial but "True, true".
