Guess some people are getting together at Morell's in NYC for some glasses of wine on Friday. I can't remember what time it's starting at the moment.. but I'm in. I believe JB and tbirdbass, then myself, are going. I thought STW was too if it was a friday, which it is.

Ah - good idea posting this here. I found it!

I'll be a gametime decision, but I don't see any reason I couldn't come for at least a glass.

Thanks.

Whoever is going - Please keep in mind that the tables require food service. So don't bother making reservations (or trying to sit at one) unless you want to eat.

Also, the bar has been pretty crowded lately (the winter crowd has descended upon Rockefeller Center). Therefore, no matter what time you decide to show up, you may not 'take over the bar.'

I won't be able to come until at least 5:15pm most likely. I should be able to confirm next week.

Maybe we should try to convince 3rd of a different plan of attack. Should we try a different place? I really liked the idea Freud had of no corkage at Triomphe (sp?). A friday night might be tough at Morells.

I'd love to do a morell's run in say.. a few months, after the x-mas rush is over. considering this isn't the first time I'd heard this brought up, I'm sure it'll happen again.

News flash to anyone interested:

We will not be meeting at Morrells. We will instead be dining at Triomphe in the Theater district at 8pm. Our good friend Frued has graciously set up a reservation w/ no corkage and we are bringing some great wines. I know one highlight will be '88 Haut Brion brought by Board-O. I will be bringing a couple jewels as well. If anyone else wants to go. Post here today and I'm sure we can add a few people. I have to know by tonight though. Admission is one bottle of good wine. Thanks.

What's that 1994 Panther Creek Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir (RP-94 points), chopped liver?

Oh no, my man. I'm looking forward to this wine as well. Just didn't want to start bragging! (Trying to keep drool off keyboard.)

It was a funny dinner tonight, fraught with disappointments on one hand and a blast on the other. The Brewer-Clifton PN was good, maybe a 90, but all the other (non-dessert) wines were a notch below optimal. The '94 Panther Creek Shea Vineyard exhibited the earliest signs of madeirization. No smell of Sherry, but the plummy, molasses nuances were present. the Haut-Brion was too young, with tannin predominating. The Uriah was good, but no 94 pointer as Parker indicated. Freud generously supplied an '88 La Chapelle, again a distinct notch below anticipation. JB's Saint Aubin 1er Cru was fine, but no mistaking it for a Grand Cru. It was a pleasure meeting tbird and Kathryn (hope I speeled it right) for the first time. I guess I'm rambliong a bit, but I can't check what I wrote because Rev has this site printing my posts all on one line. Where is that urinating squirrel when you need it? All kidding aside, it was a wonderful night, even though the wines fell a little short.

i wished i could have been there. always great to get together with all the tasting/forum buddies. also great to meet new people who you have only known through the boards.

btw, the uriah received the 94 from steiman/spectator, not parker/ravoni. i am surprised about the haut brion. it usually sheds its tannic nature early and is much more approachable than the other first growths.

Sounds like it was a fun time despite the wines not being "up to snuff" as it were.

I hate missing any offline, even when I know it is impossible to get there.

How much Wine did you guys drink? I can't seem to get-away from all those TNs. The TNs from Friday night are taking over ALL Section...

We tasted 24 wines from the US, Australia, Italy, and New Zealand. We went after dinner and tasted very small amounts of each. Neither of us was buzzed. On an empty stomach, it might have been otherwise.
