In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is...

The Vintners Inn is out. They are supposedly "sold out" that weekend. I can't figure out what might be going on, unless they are having a wedding.

I'll look into some alternatives. I kinda like mixing it up anyway. The Hyatt is a little further away, but it's quite nice, and is available at $144/night, which is a pretty damn good deal right off the bat. I'll see what I can do to get a decreased group rate.

It is very nice...Kim and I have stayed there once before.  It's just in Southern Santa Rosa, so a little farther away.  The issue I need to deal with is the Friday night dinner, and I would like that to be walking distance from the hotel.  I'll find something that will work....one way or the other.

Walking distance limits your choices. You might want to consider Syrah. It is walkable. La Gare is closer but I thought the service was poor. It has been years since I have been to either.
I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

I'm already looking into Syrah.  Their corkage is $18......damn!  If they are willing to work with me then it appears to be a good choice for our group.  More details to come!

They Hyatt has availability and is willing to work with us on their rate.  They have regular rooms (which are plenty nice) listed at $144 on their website.  They will do a group rate of $115 for us.

They also have a few "Resort Suites" which are much larger.  They will make a few of these available to us at $185.

I'm going to need to confirm in the next few weeks....I'm waiting for them to send a contract now.  If any of you on the main list are confirmed for a hotel room please advise.

One thing I'll say is the Hyatt has been much easier to work with than Vintners Inn.  With VI I always felt like they were resentful that I kept pushing for a better rate on the restaurant, and that carried over when I inquired again this year.

I have a call into Syrah (three blocks away), and should be talking with their coordinator this evening.
