There has been an upwelling of support to return to Beck's and drink Belgian ales. It's their specialty and they usually have around 10-12 on tap plus over 100 labels in bottles. Here's the deal-- the chef's table only accommodates 10, scottj from Texas is here the 14th-18th, I'm available on the 17th or 18th- much , much prefer the 18th, the cost for the tasting at the chef's table is $95 plus the pairing of beers.

I'm in for 4-- if we have over 10 who want to go- do we want to move elsewhere in the restautant- and order from the menu, and drink beer?? Or something else??

chime in ---as the chef's table fills up weeks in advance--Norm

I/we are interested - very much - for either date - but might be a tad early to fully commit. (count us in - in the meanwhile as i think we should be able to work around whatever date you pick). I'd say lets just get a regular table - order off the menu again and drink hearty - but am OK with getting the chef's table as well (I'm just a picky eater in some respects so a pre-arranged menu could be largely lost on me). Can't wait to try some of those beers (ales)...was telling a friend (way in Belgians) who works part time at Ommagang up in New York about the place and he mentioned he might be comming down over the Winter Holidays and thinks a stop at Beck's is a must! So its possible I'll have already supped a bit - but there are way too many to try in one visit so I definetly want to go back. I'm salivating so with foamy thoughts right now I'm practically drooling on the table...luckily right here right now at home I have some some Duvel, Chimay, Trader Joes (yup - belgian...) and Ommagang already well chilled and otherwise...

BTW - I just loaded up my pics from the last bash this weekend. Should I post a few? Does anyone object to being on display? Got a few good ones....

I'd love to do it, but I'm not sure I will be able to.  I need to check and see how things are going with Karen, what she has planned for me, etc.  However, put me down as a tentative.  (Sorry guys, I don't think Sarah will be flying in again for dinner, but I'll offer.  Maybe I'll bring one of my other many sisters.  and actually, I've suggested to my oldest sister)  I don't think that I can make the 17th, but the 18th would probably be doable for me.

I am ok with either the Chef's table or ordering off the menu.  But this time, I'm making sure to get some mussels and frites.

Either option - Chef's Table or off the menu - sounds good to me. Given the difficulty of getting firm commitments this early, it may be better to plan on a regular table.

I would prefer Thursday, the 17th, as I could then fly home after my meetings on the 18th, but I'll be glad to stick around another day if the consensus is Friday night.

I'm going to Beck's tonight and I'll reserve the 17th- plan for a group of 10-- and if more we'll adjust--off the menu from a table in the room- not the chef's table-- I'll see what they can do for us for a tasting menu of beers--Norm

Norm,

I won't be able to do the 17th, I have a commitment.  Wish I could, miss the company and the great food.Â

So far so good.

BTW - I'm thinking of bringing something very rare and wonderful (and as belgian as it comes...without actually being so) - and wondering if they (B Becks) will mind if I do so (I'm willing to share!)

Ok-- back to the hunt-- So far we have
winoman- 2
Norm-2
Norm's friends-2
Scott from TX-1

I'll need a firmer count in  a week or so -- for those who haven't heard-- Beck's is now gaining a national rep for its food and incredible beer list( Belgians ). Our last dinner there with wine at the chef's table was one of my best with the Cru.

winoman shoot me a private email about the special thing you want to bring and I'll ask if it's OK.

When we get done with this Mark Neal and Gove are coming around March 17-20 and I would like to do something at Marcel's. I visisted Mark's winery last week and the asst. winemaker- Kelly- was most gracious and we had some really good conversations-- buy the Howell Mountain 2005 while you can still get it-

Things are progressing-- I'll be in Phoenix over the weekend and Mon/Tues-- so if anyone is interested in signing up let me know soon. Here's the program-7 PM Beck's January 17-where we'll have a separate table for our group- not the chef's table- we'll order off the menu- and the beer sommelier will provide us about 8-10 Belgian beers for our tasting and meal. ( yes, there is a beer sommelier) these are all small producer barrelings and Beck's only gets a small number of bottles of each.. so far there are 7 signed up as shown above-- this should be a fun night as Beck's made the top tier of the top 100 restaurants in DC- in it's first year. (Washingtonian Magazine). winoman is bringing something special which Beck's will serve for us-

The reservation is under my name--

Thanks for the update, Norm. I'm a definite novice when it comes to Belgian beers, so I'm looking forward to Beck's, and trying a variety of them.

See everyone next week !

Norm, Please add Wendy and I to the list if you have not already done so.  If this event is half as enjoyable as the last one at Beck's, it will be a smashing success!  We truly look forward to this evening of fine beers and fine friends

Have a good time in Phoenix!

Best regards to you and Joyce,
Dan and Wendy

Hey - we are in to do it tonight even with the weather (nothing we can't handle) - what about the rest of the Cru? (we don't want to drink alone)...

Snowing pretty hard up here in NE Gaithersburg, but the metro is just a few miles away.  Wendy and I are still planning on being there.

My hotel is a block away from Beck's. I don't think the snow will be deep enough to inhibit my crawling back to my room afterwards ...

Looking forward to a great time!  Since I am meeting Wendy in Rosslyn at 3:30, I think Wendy and I will swing by Shelly's Back Room for a nice cigar before the big event.  Yippie!
