No pro ratings on this vintage that I could find; Winetex 85; $27.41 100% Tempranillo; At first I thought this was a bad bottle. I found this one strange with a meaty nose and almost coppery taste. It opened up after some time in the glass but I would not buy this at this price.

It was probably a bad bottle - I've had the '96 and the '99 Teofilo Reyes and both were milk chocolately (read: American oak) tempranillos that were very nice - it is their signature flavor.

It doesn't sound like the same wine. It didn't taste corked but might have been slightly cooked. The interesting part is that only one other person at the table noticed.

Indeed. There is a core group of regulars but they weren't at my table. It was a pretty good tasting as you can tell by my TNs.
