Deep red-purple, medium nose of vanillin, smoke, earth, red cherry and currants. Medium plus body, intensity and acidity with medium-to-medium plus tannin. Smoke, leather, cherry, vanillin, oakspice, herbs and black fruits. Balanced, hold.

1996 Bodegas Muga Rioja Gran Reserva - Spain, La Rioja, Rioja (6/11/2008) WIML92? Tasted June 11, 2008 at an offline. Opened and served immediately. Purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of currants, berries, cherries, thistle and potpourri. Flavors of black cherries with a strong underlying mineral streak. Medium acidity, nedium tannins, medium to full body. Drink or hold. (92 pts.)
