This wine had an absolutely magnificent, very rich, opulent nose of stewed fruit and honey with a luxurious warmth to it. On the palate, the wine is concentrated and rich with plenty of crisp balancing acidity and integrated tannins. This seems at or near its prime, which is a great plus for me because I've been tasting most Spanish wines too young. The nose alone rates 100, but the whole package is a 91.

2001 Abadia Retuerta Vino de la Tierra Castilla y León Selección Especial - Spain, Castilla y León, Sardon de Duero, Vino de la Tierra Castilla y León (6/17/2006)
WIML89,PURPLE88,NOWA,NOWS

Tasted June 17, 2006 at a retail tasting. Opened and served immediately in a Riedel Vinum Cabernet Sauvignon glass. Purple color in the glass, fairly clear with just a little dustiness. Nose of thistle, spice box, coffee and a mix of berries. Flavors of red berries, strawberries and red licorice. Drying tannins with fresh acidity. Needs an hour in the decanter if drinking now or hold for 2 more years before trying again. Based on the local retail price of $16.99 I’d say the value is agreeable. (89 pts.)

It did need time. We tasted it after opening, about an hour before we were going to drink it. The notes are from one hour after opening.

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought it was holding back.
