featuring
Lucien Albrecht Cremant d'Alsace

Lucien Albrecht pioneered Crémant production back in 1971 and helped gain an Appellation Contrôlêe for the wine and for Alsace. The wines vinified by the classic Champagne Method from 100% free run juice, are the best sparkling wines in France outside of Champagne itself. Recently Maison Lucien Albrecht was awarded four gold medals at a comprehensive National I.N.A.O. (the Institut National  des Appellations d'Origine ( INAO ), a branch of the French Ministry of Agriculture) tasting of all sparkling wines in France, giving the firm more gold medals than any other Crémant producer in France.  This Blanc de Blancs is made from 100% Pinot Blanc. The Blanc de Blancs is distinguished by a fine and elegant bead, a beautiful straw color; a light, delicate palate. It is delicious at any time of the day and with many foods. This wine pairs nicely with our Tempura Roll and our Grilled Asparagus appetizers.

"Wine is a social beverage, one that is best enjoyed in the company of family and friends. It's also the product of much communal effort from many people, not only the grape grower and the winemaker, but the vineyard workers, the "cellar rats" at harvest time, the buyers for wine shops and restaurants and, of course, the people who ultimately purchase the wine and take it home to share at the dinner table."

And Lavanda guests, of course! Join us this Thursday as we welcome winemaker Michael Martella of Martella Wines!

Image
This Thursday, 4/26 -- Michael Martella: "Community in every bottle."
Known for his winecraft with Thomas Fogerty, Michael Martella also creates his own wines, which Lavanda guests will taste this Thursday.

"To me, there’s this sense of community in every bottle, so it’s important that when you pull the cork and pour the wine, it should be good to drink. I think a good wine is one that is delicious from the beginning, one that I don’t get tired of after a few sips. Wine should be fun. This seems pretty simple, but what goes into reaching this goal has taken me many years and much thought.

Bring your questions! Michael will answer them for you Thursday between 6 and 8:30. For more information, call Bruce or Luka at 650.321.3514.
Click "ONLINE RESERVATIONS" to RSVP now!

Swirling the community of winemakers, "cellar rats" and tasting guests,

Hello Peay Vineyards Customer,

On Sunday May 13, 2007, the Seaweed Café will feature a menu centering on Soyong Scanlan?s Andante Dairy cheeses and Vanessa Wong?s Peay Vineyard wines. Each dish of our menu will feature one of Andante's creation along with a Peay wine.

At the Seaweed Café we think that Soyong Scanlan is by far the most talented cheese maker in this country. No other cheese maker in the US offers such a refined repertoire of goat, sheep or cow cheeses. The subtlety of her creations, the extreme care she puts in crafting and maturing each individual cheese translates in perfect eatable gems. The texture, color and deep savor of her butter equal the best artisan butter made in Normandy. Each week, passing through herds of goats, when we reach her secluded fromagerie, high up on the hills between Petaluma and the Pacific coast, we get a refreshing reminder that integrity has a taste, and that taste has a face, the charming face of Soyoung.

The reputation of Vanessa Wong?s wines is not for us to make. Since she started to craft her own wines, the gifted winemaker of Peay has received accolade upon accolade. When Vanessa Wong, Andy Peay and Nick Peay chose to plant 48 acres of vineyards on the slope of the Gualala River, they showed amazing foresight. The unique microclimate of the Wheatfield fork of the Gualala combined with their careful hillside farming and inspired winemaking have resulted in wines of intense personality, expressive of the Sonoma Coast new frontier. Their daring endeavor in Annapolis has paid off. Their wines are now amongst the most sought after in this country. It is a privilege for us to serve those outstanding wines.

For those of you who are interested in the flavors of the Sonoma Coast terroir and in those food artists who chose to operate on the edge of the continent, please pencil your calendar and make a reservation at 707 875 2700 with the Seaweed Café on Sunday May 13. For this evening, we will serve a $130 prix fixe, seven courses dinner including four wines. Dinnertime will start at 6:00 PM. .

Here is a preview of the menu.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is...

Jeffrey M. Davies Signature Selections and JJ Buckley Fine Wines Present An Evening With Stéphane Derenoncourt on Wednesday, March 5th at La Folie Restaurant in San Francisco

Chateau Larcis DucasseIt's our honor to invite you to the most exciting wine event of the year! Stéphane Derenoncourt, the driving force behind the success of Chateau La Mondotte, Canon-La-Gaffeliere, Pavie Macquin, and Larcis-Ducasse, will be headlining his first event in the US. Robert Parker has called Mr. Derenoncourt "one of Bordeaux's most brilliant consultants" and "most talented winemakers" and praises him as a "hotshot winemaking guru." You do not want to miss this dinner and tasting on March 5 at San Francisco's best French restaurant, La Folie.

The praises continue to pour down from Wine Spectator, which credits Derenoncourt as having "set the right bank on fire." He is the most sought after consultant in Bordeaux today. Four wines released from four different chateaux for which he consults were awarded RP96-100 points in the same vintage. This is an unprecedented achievement and speaks greatly to his abilities.

This one of a kind event can only be held at a restaurant like La Folie, San Francisco's best French restaurant with top honors from Zagat and the Michelin Guide. Chef and owner Roland Passot is one of the most respected chefs in the world today and absolutely one of the most acclaimed in San Francisco. La Folie is a world-class dining experience; Roland Passot's cuisine coupled with the exceptional wines of Stéphane Derenoncourt is an event that can not be missed. Because of such short notice of this event, we have decided to offer tickets for only $265 per person (the price of one bottle of Derenoncourt's '05 Pavie Macquin)!

Also in attendance will be superstar negociant Jeffrey Davies, one of the first Americans to graduate from the Institute of Oenology of Bordeaux and who eventually developed his own company called Signature Selections. There is virtually nothing about wine and the wine industry that Davies does not know and he has one of the most elevated palates in the world. In our opinion, this event is unparalleled and you might not see something like this again for a long time.

Pichon Baron and Suduiraut Dinner

Thursday, May 1st at One Market Restaurant in San Francisco
7pm

Join us at One Market Restaurant in San Francisco as we taste the wines of Château Pichon Longueville Baron and Château Suduiraut. Pichon Baron has consistently been one of the finest values in Bordeaux. Suduiraut, a premier cru of Sauternes has always stood out as a must-have "stickie" for any wine lover! Our guests of honor, winemakers Jean-René Matignon of Château Pichon Longueville Baron and Pierre Montegut of Château Suduiraut will lead us through a four course dinner including the 1982 Suduiraut, a four-star Michael Broadbent wine, which we will classically pair with foie gras. We will follow with the 1989, 2001, 2003 and 2005 Pichon Baron as well as the 1999 Suduiraut. One Market is located at 1 Market Street in San Francisco. Dinner will begin promptly at 7pm.

Hello Local Peay Fans,

Some of the country's finest chefs made their names at San Francisco's Campton Place Restaurant in the new Taj-owned hotel. A new chef - Srijith Gopinathan - has taken over the kitchen and we thought it would be exciting to have a wine tasting and dinner this May 5th to kick off spring and taste what the future holds for San Francisco dining.

This is a unique night. Winemaker Vanessa Wong will start the evening at 7 pm with a wine tasting and discussion in one of Campton's private dining rooms. This will be an opportunity for everyone to ask questions and get to know Vanessa and Peay Vineyards a little better.

At 8 pm, we will all head to the dining room to enjoy the following menu.

Barely seared Hokkaido
White Asparagus Vadouvan, Proscuitto
2006 Peay Vineyards Estate Viognier, Sonoma Coast

Barramundi, Spot Prawn, Green Squash Ragout
Hajikami, Petit Sorrel
2004 Peay Vineyards Estate Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast
and
2006 Peay Vineyards Estate Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast

Liberty Farms Duck Breast, Artisan Foiegras
Tamarind Jus and Cinnamon-Sunchoke Foam
2005 Peay Vineyards Scallop Shelf Estate Pinot noir, Sonoma Coast
and
2006 Peay Vineyards Scallop Shelf Estate Pinot noir, Sonoma Coast

Selection Artisanal Cheese
2005 Peay Vineyards La Bruma Estate Syrah, Sonoma Coast

Please call Campton Place at 415-955-5555 to make a reservation for the evening. Seating is limited to only 24 people so do not dally.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Best,
Andy and Vanessa
Peay Vineyards
