| I have noticed a few posters mentioning that they have gone to Outback (Steakhouse, presumably). I find this odd. Why?
The few times I have been, probably 3-4 times overall over the past 5-6 years (and not at all in the last 2-3, actually), I have found their steaks and so on to be overly salted/spiced to make the taste not so enjoyable to me. Am I the only one that feels this way? | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com |

| Same as mletson. Have never darkened an Outback doorway. The one closest to us doesn't take reservations. You check in and get a Star Trek communicator that lights up in an hour when a table is available. This system doesn't work with a young child. Can't wait at the bar. So, I avoid the whole process. I have never suspected that I am missing anything. | | | Beta testing a new signature. | |

| Okay, I'll defend the Outback. At least somewhat. For what they are I think they are fine. In many of the smaller towns where I travel they are the only game in town. Places like Monroe and Houma, La for example. Sure maybe there are other options but that would involve research. I find the prime filet quite edible (especially with a bleu cheese topper) and for those that haven't been there lately (probably all of you) they have been upgrading to a respectable and VERY reasonably priced wine list. Examples are Silver Oak for $72 I think and Matanzas Creek merlot for $42 or something like it. They also had Villa Mt. Eden cab and some other nice selctions. But for you snobs they still have Yellow Tail too. Have I ever been to an Outback in a city where I lived (Houston, Santa Fe, or Austin)? No way. But I have traveled in many a small town where I'd probably chew my arm off for one. It all depends on the situation. Plus they always have hot waitresses when located in college towns. | | | |

| YUCK is all I have to say about Outback. And I really like Australia, but this place has as much to do with that country as a dog knows about religion (to steal a line from Eisenhower). | | | |

| Not a fan either. But, better than most chains.
I avoid chains (any kind of chains) for the most part. | | | |

| OK, I'll come to Outback's defense - I don't go there anymore because eating at home I can get better steaks (and wine), but while I was a single guy and before I knew fine wines, Outback did hit the spot once in a while when I would go with friends. | | | |

| The kids like it (by kids I mean 21 and 25). I've been there just a few times with them over the past several years. I learned after the first time to order the steak WITHOUT THE RUB. It's really not too bad then. Fairly cheap also. | | | |

| I'm not the least bit pretentious, but I find any restaurant where the waitstaff feels it's an acceptable procedure to plop themselves down at my table unacceptable. | | | |
