This has been a dream of mine and I'm going to do it but I need friends to help guide me. I consider many of you friends.
Yes, I know it is nuts, because I am a solo woman heading out ; but the thought of it gives me such a rush.

Let me preface this by saying I am 'heading out' in a fully restored '53 MG/TD.  A chitty chitty bang-bang looking thing-but no way to really lock it up.
I know how to change tires, fuel it, and use the '53 tools should I get into mechanical trouble. I have all zipped canvas windows and c-roof should I need them before I get out of Texas   (Like we are going to get rain)
Not worried there.
What I am wondering about are the hotels on the way to my destination and not for just my security as a single white 99 year old blonde alone but more importantly for the MG's security.  It is one of my pride and joy's.

When I drive it to a grocery store, even where I live and people know me and I park it in the back, I can be sure that some one will be pulling up one half the duel hood to check it out.
Once I found a Dad place his 5 year old in the front seat and his son was blasting the horn as the Father tinkered with the engine.  Arrhhg! I could barely get out of the store before the Dad was tempted to hot jack it.
(actually, I was a bit grateful that I heard the horn since I forgot where I parked it until I heard it the Rg Arg Arg....silver linings and all

This will be the first time I really take it on the road by myself.

SO:  I am going from Marble Falls, Texas to Albuquerque on to Santa Fe, then Colorado Springs and then Denver.  I will end up in Vail. .....Hopefully and godwilling.

Rec's for great hotels/restaurants with great wine lists will be most appreciated.......but most importantly secure/obscure places to stay with dollars not being an option.

I have tried to do this on-line, but I don't get details.
I'm sure some of you have been to some of these places and know the out of the way/out of boundary locations.

Inn  of the Mountain God's
or....Inn of the Mountain's God?

Many thanks for all help,

Too cool. Take lots of pictures. I love MG's. I had a 67 a life time ago...

Tangle-somewhere in a recent digital album, I have a picture.  I will post it if I can figure out how.

Took my driver's test in a friend's MGB. :-)

This sounds like a wonderful adventure.  Have a fun time.

Here's a picture of the 1953 I found on the web:

Here's a picture of the 1967 MG Midget. Mine was minus the roll bar and in maroon:

cmsyrah, sounds like a great car and a fun trip ! I assume you're waiting until later in the spring to take it ? Not sure how the TD will handle in the snow ! I'm sorry I can't help with hotels, restaurants, etc as I haven't taken such a drive. One caution I would have for you is how are you at adjusting the carbs ? In my limited experience, a car like this tuned and running well at sea level, or close to it, will have some difficulties at altitude. Albuquerque and points in CO start at around 5000 ft and the Eisenhower Tunnel on the way from Denver to Vail tops out at 11,000+ ft.

Major thread drift here - did you do the restoration, or have it done ? I have a '63 TR3B sitting in the garage that needs a full frame-off done. I keep thinking I'll do it myself, but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. I'm thinking of biting the bullet and taking a year off of buying wine, and putting the money in the car instead. Any pointers ?

Scottj-

I'm on a road trip now (wiser souls convinced me now was not the time to  trip with the MG)  but I do have two names and numbers of excellent restorers for you when I return home next week.
I will email with details when I get home and have the info.

Until then,

Excellent option, Kpak!!

The seats are so small it would have to be a little doggie with big teeth......I hear some of the teacup poodles can be pretty vicious.

Seeking:   w/ power.
