We took the hour ride over to Disney to celebrate our anniversary.  We stay at AKL, with one of those savannah-view rooms, but the highlight was definitely Jiko.

From top to bottom, the food, the service, the atmosphere, was just what we wanted.  The in-laws are coming next month; we'll be going.  And after all the nice chats and sharing a taste with the manager and waiter, the $20 corkage was nowhere to be found.

I know the Rothkos went there years ago - we have never been.

It's a fantastic restaurant.  I didn't know that they allow BYOB.  They have a great selection of South African wines (but only SA wines).

I enjoy staying at the hotel.  The design and decor are fantastic, and the savanah rooms are really great, especially for the kids.  I once got one of the rooms on the top floor which have the huge balconies, and didn't want to leave the hotel.

I'm with you, Rothko. The view was gorgeous at sunset and sunrise. The customer service (mostly the restaurant, but everywhere else too) was so good (even by Disney standards) that I wrote a letter to corporate.

I thought about the idea of reserving the Chef's table at V&A's for The Rocket Scientist's 40th...I'm just concerned that it's "Disney good" instead of "absolutely good."  Thoughts?

We found it to be Disney Good - but that was a number of years ago

to be honest...i think "disney good" is better than most....from my past experince, out side of park there are many great dinning options which is far better than most and v&a was one of the top.  so i don't really get what "disney good" means?  other great dinning we had while we were there:

jiko
california grill
artist point
citricos
flying fish
narcoosse's

We loved Artist Point (ate there twice when we stayed at Wilderness Lodge), but were underwhelmed by Citrico's. I think Cali Grill is our next stop.

I haven't done the Chef's Table, but have done the regular sitting. I think it was very, very good by any measure. And the price, while high, is not bad compared to most high-end prix fixe meals.

Beta testing a new signature.

I've had some excellent meals at V&A; I think it is above "Disney Good" (a term which I would use for many of the restaurants inside the parks - the resort restaurants are usually better).Â

The only time I've not had a superb dining experience at V&A was when we were seated next to a table of 3 guys (all lawyers) and I had to listen to their rather loud bragging stories throughout the meal.  Oh, and they ordered a bottle of white zinfindel for their table - I kid you not...

For me the term simply meant that given its location (both at Disney and in Orlando in general), it was quite good. Do I think it compares well to top restaurants elsewhere at the same price? Not at all from the one meal we had there.
