I need a quick tip for a restaurant in or near Calistoga.  My bosses' boss is coming into town, and wants an insider's recommendation.  Not fancy extravagant $$$$, just nice and tasty and $$$.  I haven't been there in many years...and would appreciate any thoughts.

Restaurants in Calistoga seem to be a bit inconsistent these days.  I often like All Seasons. Cooking is usually good and they have a wine shop attached where you can pick out a wine from a large selection and enjoy it for a small premium ($10?) over retail.

That said, it is only 15 minutes to St Helena with Fancy (Terra, Martini House, Meadowood), mid-fancy (Tra Vigne) and casual (Cook, Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen, Go Fish, Market).

We had a very good meal at Calistoga Ranch, but you have to play a few games to get in if you are not a guest there.

How is Wappo these days? We always really enjoyed our meals there.

I'm not sure why this is, but everytime we've been there, some dishes have been good and others less than average.
