Announced to today one of the Islands favorite watering holes has closed for good. Chuck and harolds closed 06/17 for good. Will open in October as "another' Italian resturant. Just what Palm Beach needs another Italian resturant. YUCK.

Testas [our other fav place] has been closed since a fire back about 6 months ago.

Both places were great for "spotting the celiberities".

I read about that.

C&H wasn't much of a wine restaurant, but was a great place to sit outside and watch the world go by...

Yes, all we need is another Italian restaurant... It's not like we have enough already.

At least it isn't being purchased to become another high-profile real estate office.

What's going on, there? is it the economy getting these places? First La Vieille Maison, then this one?

I think that both places were older, and had little appeal to the younger crowd. La Vielle Maison also had an older owner, who wanted to cash out for his retirement.

Chuck and Harolds was a bit jaded, at least as far as its menu.

Other, newer restaurants, seem to be doing just fine.

Restaurants are doing fine. I agree with Rothko's analysis. The real estate of La Vielle Maison made the owner a boatload.

Minority opinion.
Amici - each time we have been to the new place - its like empty
264 The Grill is running specials even in season to get folks in.
Testas had a fire - so they will be back.
Sunrise Hotel is like deserted

Chuck & Harolds was 23 years old and catered to an older crowd. Landry corp wants a better ROI.

Folsk are tending to go to the nwer places in City Place etc., and being a bit fickle as to 'lets try the new spots'

Well it is summer. Maybe things are slower in Palm Beach, but seems like business as usual here. Some places are booming and others are struggling just like always.

Things do get slow here in the summer. However, there are a few places that remain busy. Palm Beach Grille (which allows BYOB) is packed on weekends. I went to the Riverhouse this weekend (another BYOB place - $20 corkage) and had to wait 45 minutes for a table.

You can get some great deals in the summer, though. A number of places in Palm Beach are running prix fix dinners at around $30 or so. Not bad, for a place like Renatos, on Worth Avenue...
