My wife and I went to dinner tonight at Landmarc in NYC, right near the Holland Tunnel. The food was very good to excellent. My wife had an appetizer of salmon tartare, with lemon confit, red onions and mustard, which was delicious and lite. I had the snail frisee salad that was also excellent.

For dinner, my wife had lamb chops and I had the crispy sweetbreads. Both were very good to excellent.

I ordered a 2004 Clos Des Pape CDP blanc to start with that was terrific and priced at an unreal $60. Then we had the 2001 Togni Cab for dinner that was priced at $125. We took the leftover wines to enjoy at home and am doing so now. The Togni could have a little more body to it for my taste at that level, but no complaints for the prices of both wines. I would highly recommend giving this place a try if you are looking for a nice meal, without having to bring your own wines, and still paying unreal restaurant prices.

The decor is nothing special, nor is the service, but both are quite passable. Give it a try, and you won't be sorry.

Also the desserts were very nice too. All in all, a great find.

Best,

Steve

Board-o, while I do not necessarily share stevezi's opinions, I find it quite odd that you make this post on a thread where he is only talking about wine and food, something you said stevezi was not doing before. Oh well, we each do what we want to, I guess.

He's just trolling as usual.

His way of (dis) encouraging people to join in on VinoCellar.

No anger at all. Just calling it as I see it.

If it is not worth the trouble, why do you go to such lengths to track me down??

Keep trolling and stalking. Are you Anthony Iezza's brother? You stalk just like him.

Enjoy the your trolling. And enjoy your time out of your hole.

I looked at this thread because, as I have posted here previously, I have long ewanted to dine at Landmarc, but their policy of not taking reservations has kept me away. As much as I know you'd love to believe I'm stalking you, you're as wrong as you are when you post all your political BS on this wine site. I don't remember reading any posts of yours except this thread and the recent politcal idiocy you posted, and that only because of the frequency of posts on it. You seem to believe I live in a hole. You're not very intelligent. Go ahead and post what you want; I know what you are and what you're trying to do, so I'll let you have your fun. You need some help for that anger.

BO,

You are showing more and more that you are a bit unstable.

You come into this thread, post off topic and attempt to insult. You are nothing but a troll.

And if you want to insult by going into politics, at least have the decency....and brains, to post it in the right forum.

Crawl back into that hole. You seem to be having another bad day.

We went around 4:45 and there was one or two couples there. By the time we were done eating, it was almost full, but the table next to us was empty.

Two negatives:

Quite a few little kids, but it WAS father's day.

Wine glasses sucked. I would definitely bring glasses next time.

Best,

Steve

I generally try to avoid places that do not take reservations. If it happens that I happen to be in the area of a place I want to try that does not take reservations, I might, just *might* wander in to see if I can be seated immediately. But usually it never works out so I try that less and less.

Not accepting reservations is ver 'Olive Garden' of a restaurant.

TJ,

I don't blame you. You hate no reservations too, but there are times that it works well. Like for us, Saturday night, last minute decision to go to dinner after Karen was done with the National Dance Institute show. We thought of plenty of other destination restaurants, but settled on Landmarc due to its wine pricing policy. I feel that it is a policy that should be supported, even though there are some things that aren't perfect.

But it's always nicer when you have a reservation and know exactly when you will be seated.

Best,

Steve

Not takingany reservations is simply bad business. Even if you only commit to filling half your tables and leaving the other half open for walk-ins, you are doing your business a great benefit. Why would you want to open your doors on a Saturday night unsure if you will welcome any customers at all, as opposed to opening the doors and prepping the food knowing that at least 60 people will walk through the doors? It's simply nuts. And not taking any reservations runs the risk of chasing away potential customers (myself and apparently TJ included) who have no desire to risk walking in and being told that a table will be ready in 15-20 minutes, and then not having sufficient space for people to wait. And when dining with my minor child, offering me a seat at a bar is of no use. I simply will not dine with my family without a reservation. I have no interest in holding some space-age UFO shaped light-up thingy while waiting in the foyer, trying to keep my kid occupied, hoping against hope that my table will really be ready in 20 minutes. Nope. When I walk in to a restaurant with my family or with business associates, I expect to be greeted with a: "Thank you for coming Mr. V. We have a wonderful table for you, and it is ready for you now." Only when I am traveling alone would I consider popping in to a place without a reservation, as I know that if all else fails, a table at a kitchen counter or the bar might do in a pinch.

Have to agree with some of what you said, but I know plenty of restaurants that do not take ANY reservations that have done outstanding business for many many years......and with very good food and decent service.

It's all a matter of choice. MOST of the time, I would want a reservation, but with these places, a phone call is all it takes to get an idea of how long the wait might be, if any.

Best,

Steve

No, just pointing out your infantile thought that calling the restaurant provides any proof of a wait when you actually show up. I'm sure it must make you feel better about yourself to call me a loser. Good for you. My definition of a loser is omeone who posts idiotic political rantings on a wine site.
