You only have 11 more posts that you can make mistakes in... after that you graduate and will no longer be a wine newb.

The picture upload idea is a good one, but an expensive one when considering the bandwidth. This may however be a feature we will provide once we determine our best options.

Anyhow, great idea. keep them coming.

Short,

My first post!

The heading says 99 but you seam to be talking about the 98? I had the 99 the other night.

Dark purple color, almost blue at the rim. Pleasent fruit aromas with a touch of Cedar that was promising. Fruit disapears in the mouth. Left with mild dusty earthy flavors. Finished with a chemical aftertaste.

Very disapointing considering the press that this gets as a QPR favorite. Maybe it's just the grape, because I don't ever truely remember likeing a Petite Sirah.

Well Jones we are in complete agreement

By QPR I do not mean cheap. I would pay $100 for a bottle of wine if I felt it was a unique and classic wine that held a place with the all time greats. There are plenty of $40 wines that are good QPR in my opinion they would probably be in the wines in the 92 to 94 point range for lack of a better way to describe it. That's why I say a 93 point $20 wine like the Guigal is a good QPR, it's just not so special. If this is the direction they were going why not pick the 99 Les Cailloux CdP, same price same score same vintage.

And, no 87 point wine belongs in the top 100 even if it costs a quarter.

My wife and I had an excellent time at The Wine Bar on the main street ( I don't recall if it is actually called main street or not). It is more of a small portion to share kind of place. We had an excellent seared Tuna, salad and cheese plate. But it is quite nice, the food was excellent and it is a nice place to at least stop off for a drink.

There is also a great french bakery at the top of the street as you head towards Skidmore.

I visited the area 2 summers ago. Nice area to relax & do some site-seeing.

Hit the spas also. Very nice spas there. 1 of the best (can get you the name) that I ever visited.

Forgot the names of the Restaurants that we visited.

I suggest sending a PM to Seek. He lives in that area & knows it very well...

Is there anyone else considering coming up to Saratoga during the summer and/or track season?

Same quality as it was before, not much change. It is nice for a large hotel, and is right in town. It is some of the B&B's that are the real joy and heritage of Saratoga Springs. There is also a new Hilton Gardens in the south end of town which is pretty nice. If you have not booked your room yet for the track season you will want to do that very soon.

I agree on the Seek's B&B comment. That area is know for that. We stayed @ the Seven Sisters. B-fast included (it is OK as far as food goes, nothing special). But, the place is really nice. Owners are great. They have a balcony. I brought 6 bottles of Wine that my wife & I enjoyed on the balcony.

The name is actually Six Sisters (my wife corrected me).

Walking distance from the track & the Horse Racing museum.

A nice walk or a 5-minute ride to the Park (go there, nice little park). You cannot miss it. But, there are a few nice parks there. I like the smaller park more. Again, cannot remember any names (@ all).

And, a fast ride to the center of town.

I wish I could remember some names of Restaurants, but I cannot. But, again, Seek can help there (I am sure).

But, there is an awesome Lunch-place (some of the BEST bagel sandwiches I ever had). And, a nice cup of Coffee (which is always a surprise to me in USA). Very popular & busy. They have little tables outside. Cannot remember the name of that either. BUT, it is Gourmet Coffee (something). Look (on the main street with all the stores & eateries) for a place with Coffee beans (green) on display. Sorry cannot help more, it was about 2-3 years ago.

I do not recall the name of the coffee place either, but it is directly (or almost directly) accross the street from the Borders.

Uncommon Grounds is the name of one coffee shop on Broadway. If you like Italian food give this place a tryChiantis' . They have a decent wine list, but pricey.

Had a very nice dinner at The Lodge a few weeks ago. Gourmet food, service was excellent. Husband had foie gras four ways - mousse, terrine, something else. Said it was excellent. I had 3 diff. rolls - crab, duck spring roll, hamachi tuni. Entrees were also very good - seared tuna, strip steak. '03 Cloudy Bay for $40.
