Saw this over on chowhound and I figured it'd be worthy of a post over here. It's a link to a site that has a list on restaurants with phone #s and website links that have an official BYOW w/corkage policy.

You beat me to it TJ.

I had always heard that Galileo did not allow corkage, but I just called and they said it was $15 and you could bring any wine you wanted. Not bad considering their extensive (and expensive and pricy too) list.

There are some very nice restaurants on this list! It makes dining out in DC even more attractive. I would certainly call first however as they might limit the days or the price could be high, etc.

I will be going to 1789 not this weekend but next. They emailed me their wine list, which is pretty good, but, as usual, picey.

BUT, they do allow corkage -- $20.

What to bring, what to bring?

TJ,

Are you guys going on Friday or Saturday? I've been trying to talk the wife into a dinner in G'town for a while and 1789 might just fit the bill. Especially with thier $35 special coupon.

OK, TJ. How as dinner with the coupon and what did you take from the cellar?

BTW, a friend from work took her hubby there for their anniversary and loved it.

It was pretty good. We ended up opening that 2001 Darioush Viognier that Debbie found at that little off the wall shop near her work.

Complimentary valet parking was nice. The restaurant is split up into six dining areas on different levels. Tables are nicely spaced and the food, at $35 for 3 courses ($45 if you choose the lamb) is extremely well priced. It would normally cost you about $40 to $55 for the same without this promo. Corkage was $20. With 10% tax and coffee, it came to $104 plus tip. Not bad.

I started with a spinach salad with a warm pancetta dressing, onions, raisins, goat cheese and more. Mrs. TJ started with a salmon & asparagus soup with lots of other greens in it along with a tiny radish butter toast that she said was the highlight of the dish.

I moved on to the veal loin served on a bed of I think lemon risotto, dried tomatoes, scattered asparagus tips and a sauce. Nice. Debbie had a roasted chicken with fennel, mushrooms and some bitter greens. The chicken was I think herb crusted. Quite tasty.

I ended up with the blueberry cobbler topped with brown sugar ice cream that was delicious. Debbie has the ricotta cheesecake, which was served as it's own little cake -- surounded by fresh berries.

All in a ll a great value. I think I would go back again, expecially during the promo. Otherwsie, I'd probably still go back every now and again. Scratch one more of the list of places to go check out.
