That's great, KB. I hope to get to meet you. How long will you be here? If you're here for Monday night, we might a group together for free BYO night at Montrachet.

I think we can get mwagner and Hunter to join us. I wouldn't be surprised if they've already posted on the WS site.

Never been to Montrachet, it is supposed to be very impressive.
Since KB is a Kinks fan-"God save the Village Green!"

OK, TBird. Without you we were 9 and now we're at 10, so this event is now closed. The tables seats ten. I'll send out a group email. Glad to have you with us.

Man, I'd love to be able to see you while you're here KillerB. This is going to make two times you've crossed the pond and both times I'll be unable to swing seeing you. Damn damn damn.:(

Hope you have a great time whist you're here.

If anyone cancels, I might be interested in BYO at Montrachet. I think I am free that night.

Anybody any suggestions for good wine shops that are nearby to me (E 44th Street). I've popped into the one in Grand Central and another on (I think) 2nd or 3rd Avenue, around 42nd st. Both were OK but a little pricey, going on what I can buy things for at home. Where's Costco?

In New York State, grocery stores, like Costco, can't sell wine

KillerB-- The real deals to be had in NYC metro are probably in New Jersey, to be honest. However, I have done a little snooping around on the web for you this morning and here are a few shops. Granted, most of them are not particularly near your hotel, but here they are FWIW.

Grande Harvest Wines
33 Grand Central Terminal
Telephone (212) 682-5855
Fax (212) 490-2075
Specialty California and Australia, $25-$30
Stock, price range 1,000 bottles, $9-$500

Italian Wine Merchants
108 E. 16th St.
Telephone (212) 473-2323
Fax (212) 473-1952
Web site www.italianwinemerchant.com
Specialty Italy, especially Friuli
Stock, price range 1,000 bottles, $9-$175
I've been here once. I was a bit intimidated, but I understand that these guys are really supposed to knw their Italian wine...

Morrell Wine Bar & Cafe
1 Rockefeller Plaza
Telephone (212) 262-7700 (restaurant); (212) 981-1106 (shop)
Fax (212) 262-6547
Web site www.morrellwinebar.com
Specialty Collectibles
Stock, price range 1,000 bottles; 130 wines by the glass $5-$49
Not really a wine shop, but it's a fun place to spend a lot of money trying a lot of different wines by the glass. Try to sit at the bar if you can...

Union Square Wines & Spirits
33 Union Square West
Telephone (212) 675-8100
Fax (212) 675-8663
Web site www.unionsquarewines.com
Specialty California, Italy, Australia
Stock, price range 100,000 bottles, $5-$1,500
I have been here, too. Not the best prices, but their selection is pretty good and they usually have a tasting going on.

Vino
143 E. 27th St.
Telephone (212) 725-6516
Fax (212) 725-6537
Specialty Southern Italy
Stock, price range 8,000 bottles, $9-$750

Vintage New York
482 Broome St.
Telephone (212) 226-9463
Fax (212) 226-8812
Web site www.vintagenewyork.com
Specialty New York state
Stock, price range 12,000, $8-$37

Now here is a list of places I looked up on WS' wine retailer tool (signed up for their free 3-day pass to get access to this info -- what a joke)---

AMBASSADOR WINES&SPIRITS
1020 2nd Ave
New York , NY 10022
Phone: 212-421-5078

BEEKMAN LIQUORS (this one looks sort of close to you)
500 Lexington Ave
New York , NY 10017
United States
Phone: 212-759-5857

PARK AVENUE LIQUOR SHOP
292 Madison Ave
New York , NY 10017
United States
Phone: 212-685-2442

PJ LIQUOR WAREHOUSE
4898 Broadway
New York , NY 10034
United States
Phone: 212-567-5500
This one is way, way, way up there...In the 200s, but there are a few subway stops on the A, 1 or the 9 that are within a couple of blocks walk. I only list this here as it is a Liquor Warehouse and might have good prices? Maybe not. Plus I have no idea about the location if it is safe or not....

Anyway, hopefully this is helpful to you, KillerDude. Ciao!

You'll pay through the nose at all those places. It's worth taking a cab to K&D or Acker, Merrill, & Condit.

Thanks for the addresses TJ. Grande Harvest I've already been into and it is over-priced even though I bought a bottle of NY Chardonnay there - something about a fish, not undrinkable but nothing to emigrate for either.

Board-O, you can tell me where these places are tonight.
