Frankly, it is shocking to me how little I know about where to stay in the Napa Valley. Living close enough to make day trips, I rarely stay overnight, and so rarely pay attention to what's hot and what's not in with regard to lodging. The only place I've got recent experience with is the Forest Manor Inn, in Angwin (which I highly recommend, btw).

Well, early next year we're planning on spending a weekend up that way, so suggestions pleeeeze? Some place nice, but that won't break the bank would be good.

EW,

I just got back and stayed at Hilltop House Manor on top of Spring Mountain next to Pride Mountain Vineyards. I would say it is "OK". The location is beautiful. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular but are outdone by the fog. It looks like a lake as it rolls in. Beautiful. Wine in the hot tub on the huge redwood deck is very nice in the cool evenings. They will also cook breakfast for you in the morning. All this for around $100-130 a night. The catch is you are literally staying in somebodies house. They built it to spec but it looks like a double wide when you drive up. As I said, it is "OK". If you are looking for "wonderful, posh, elegant" or anything remotely similar then consider this a pass.

We only get out there every 2 or 3 years, so we stay at our favorite place, the Vintage Inn in Yountville. It's also close to Domaine Chandon, so we don't have far to go when we finish dinner. The rooms (with Jacuzzis and balconies or patios) are great, there's a nice pool, and a California breakfast with a sparkler in the morning.
