We are going to attend the New Orleans-bash in July. The hotel & restaurants are taken care of (of course). But, looking for advice/suggestions on Site Seeing/Tourist-type spots to see. Never been there, so want to see (during the day) as much as possible over the 3-4 days that we are there. Thank You.

Just take your walking shoes. You'll love it!

The acquarium is a highlight; Albino alligators.

Washington square.

All around Bourbon Street (especially Royal St) for antiques and other collectables.

You could avoid Bourbon Street itself but I bet you do go there. Get a take-out walk-away daiquiri.

Or get a Hurrican at Pat O'Briens.

Aunt Salley's Pralines are the best.

The French Market.

For Blues... A must... Donna's Bar and Grill. 800 N. Rampart St. just across from the Armstong Arch at the corner of St. Ann. I have never experienced anythin quit like it. Free red beans and rice!

Donna's Bar and Grill Web Page

More, much more.

For some fresh air, take a short river boat cruise. For some stale air, go into Harrah's casino.

Stef started taking me every year for my birthday in October.

This past year I really enjoyed the boat trip to the Battle of New Orleans site, but I'm a history geek.
We usually take in a sporting event too, Saints, but no chance of that in July.

We drove up the Gulf coast into Mississippi this last time with a couple friends we met at the Red Fish Grill, and had a blast doing that. The Frecnh Market is fun in the day time also.

One of my favorite things to do is eat on a balcony about 8 PM and watch the day time and night time crowds in transition. My favorite place to dance has been Utopia, to be danced for the Hustler Club. If you are so inclined to view the, um, humm, Bourbon street activities, look for the girls with lots of unmatching beads. And my personal thought is the rudest thing you can do is pick up some girls hard earned beads and keep them for yourself ("gutter ratting"). Pick them up and give them to her, even better pick them up and ask her boyfriend of you can give them to her.

The St. Charles Streetcar is an absolute requirement and a good way to get away from the main tourist areas. Take it from Downtown up St. Charles to Uptown where Tulane, Loyola, Audubon Park and the Carrollton area are located. Lots of places for lunch along the way. The streetcar takes about 1/2 hour from Canal to Audubon Park.

Other recommendations:

National D-Day Museum in the Warehouse District
Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop (a bar on the lower end of Bourbon)

Washington Square? Andrew Jackson might take issue with that. (As may NYC)
