As I've posted, we'll be in Seattle for three days in July. July 23rd, we're having dinner with non-wine friends. On the 25th, Blobby is picking a place where a number of us might meet for dinner, probably a BYO. On the 24th, we haven't made plans and I saw GA's comments about The Herbfarm. Is it worth the trip from Seattle? Anybody interested in joining us if we go there? TIA

Board-O, I am sad to say that I have never been to the herbfarm, despite it being 10 minutes from my house.

However, I can say that I have NEVER heard anything but the highest praise for the food and wine there. They are supposedly masters at pairing fine northwest cuisine with wine. I can't really give you any first hand detail other than that. I think they have a 5 course and a 7 course menu with wine pairings.

It's actually a nine course meal. I attended the Spring Foragers dinner in late April last year. Lots of gathered and wild PNW foods. Generous pours on the wines as well.

Board-O, I sent you an email with some links.

Thanks to both of you. I checked out their site last night. Do those prices include wine?

Yes, but I think they add a mandatory gratuity to the price listed. Check the fine print.

Board-O - ROVERS would be right up your alley too.

I've never heard of Rovers, but I will check it out. Is it in Seattle?

It is in Seattle. I used to live about 5 blocks from it. Great cuisine, not sure what their wine list is like now but it's the real deal.

Here are the directions and a link to their website.

Thanks, Winetex. We'll be staying at the Waterfront Marriott and the idea of staying in Seattle for a wine dinner sounds good to us. I'd be concerned about driving back to Seattle from Woodinville after a wine dinner.

You should not even consider driving after the Herbfarm dinner. I stayed at the Motel 6 in Woodinville just long enough to sleep it off.

It wasn't the Westin, but it was close. Can't remember it much anyway.

Thanks. It's hard to decide which one to go to. Any idea on what the cabfare is from downtown Seattle to The Herbfarm?

Probably $150 at least. Not cheap. Not worth it. No other alternatives either. (Round trip).

I would have tried Rovers but they were not open on the nite I had available, (Sunday). Loved the food at Dahlia Lounge though. Staggering distance from the Westin.

I would go to the herbfarm. Stay someplace close to sleep it off as previosly mentioned. I have never been there, but I have heard only amazing things about the place from a number of gastronomic sources.

It's not really practical. It's the middle night of our three night Seattle stay. I'm thinking Rover's sounds pretty good.

FYI - Downtown Seattle to the Herbfarm is about 20 miles and lots of $$ maybe 80-90 RT. Rovers is about 5 miles from the Waterfront Marriott and would be an easy cab ride. Don't expect a grand restaurant though. It's in a little house. The stars are the food and wine.

Just FYI

Rovers Site

HerbFarm website

Both are in the top 5 for seattle area restaurants no matter who you ask.

Thanks for all the help. Both places look great, but we'll be staying at the Waterfront Marriott and Rover's is a cab ride away, so I guess we'll try that.
