I agree with your point David from their perspective. I hope they have a lot of parties.

It's not really in my neighborhood. It's a bistro in Brooklyn. We've been going there since they opened. They didn't have a liquor license in the beginning and now that they do, they allow us to still bring our own wine. They don't charge us corkage, but we leave a huge tip. The food is excellent and inexpensive. Best lapin moutarde I've ever had.

Crepe Nanou - a very good, inexpensive bistro/creperie 6 blocks away that allows BYO. Special bonus for being one of our daughter's favorite restaurants.

Clancy's - a little further away but a classic Uptown NO upscale neighborhood restaurant that sets the local standard for BYO friendliness.

So what's the name of the place Board-o?

It's an embarassment of riches. There are 70 restaurants within a four block walk from my house!

Not in my neighborhood, but on my way home from work, A Cote and Oliveto Cafe, both on College Avenue in Oakland's Rockridge area are worthy of mention.

Oliveto Cafe is downstairs from Chef Paul Bertolli's Oliveto Restaurant. A real come as you are restaurant with a bisto menu, and wood fired pizzas. You can also order from the awsome upstairs menu as long as you don't mix and match from downstairs. It can be crowded, but has an eight seat communal table that always has room for one or two more. By my second visit, I wasn't charged corkage anymore.

I work late on most weeknights so it's great that A Cote serves until around 11, late by East Bay standards. Another come as you are place. Very busy, but they also have a communal table and around a dozen seats at the bar. Lots of small plates, and appetizers to go with their extensive by the glass list. Very fine selection of imported ales too.

Good food, fair prices, friendly, competent waitstaff.
We eat there about once a week.

Can't say I have one in terms of I go there often but my favorite neighborhood restaurant is Taisho for sushi.

It's called Bacchus. I didn't mention it since they won't allow other people to bring wine.

Tough category for S. Florida as even neighborhood places are expensive, but as far as casual places we frequent, number one would be Hi-Life Cafe in Fort Lauderdale (even though it is not in our 'hood, but we almost never go out to it in our 'hood having found most places over-priced and not very good).

Also, Cafe Ragazzi in Surfside.

In Florida, for us it would be Bistro Provence.

If it was a little closer, it probably would be for us as well Board-O. We really enjoyed it.

As would Graziano's Next Door (thanks to Emilio) if we lived further South in Miami. Went there Saturday for lunch and had some great food and a 2001 Ciacci Ross di Montalcino for $24. They have a wine store in the back where you can buy your wine and have it with the meal at retail price. There prices, on average, are maybe slightly high I would say although deals can be found. We also brought home a Martinelli 2001 Russian River Pinot for $34.99.

Defining "neighborhood" to mean "within easy walking distance", my favorite neighborhood restaurant is A16.www.a16sf.com Just a great restaurant from so many aspects and because it is is six blocks away I dine there often.

Carmines & Shelias Woodfire Steak House. At night sit in the lounge by the fireplace. Daytime regular area overlooking the marina, or outside by the marina and exterior bar.

Located NE corner of PGA & prosperity. Behind the Trattoria.

Good wine list, and some very nice selections by the glass. Reasonable prices.

No question for us it's Mirabelle.
Great food and excellent wine list with most prices just above retail.
Numerous wine dinners ($75 price fixe) with the likes of Doug Shafer, Sarah Marquis, Pete Seghesio and too many others to mention. Evidently the next one will feature Adam Lee and Jeff Pisoni.
