| Lucked into a reservation later this month. Anyone know if there is a limit on corkage bottles. I'm going with one other person, and we figured we'd bring 2 or 3 bottles to drink/share. Also, I know that the menu changes constantly, but as a general rule, is it the type of meal where you start out with foods that pair well with whites, and progresses to wine that cries out for big Italians, or is this a "red wine all the way" type of place. And anthony, no need for a snide comment. We all know that to you, all restaurants, even Red Lobster are "red wine all the way" restaurants. | | | Beta testing a new signature. |

| After pondering this same question, we dicided to buy the wine service. Presumably the wines were matched to each course and the number of courses was 10+, it would be quite difficulat to try to pair wine by bringing wine.
That being said, I think if you brought a couple of whites and couple of reds to choose from, you'd do well. The wine that the lab offered wasn't that great and in fact the pairings didn't match up all that well either.

This has been my experience at even the top echelon of restaurants, hence my desire to bring wine. We could order off the extensive list, and get great wine, but this is a business dinner, and the tab will be picked up by my companion. There is no way I am going to saddle him with a $500+ wine bill. So if we order wine, it will likely be run-of-the-mill stuff, and I don't want to turn a once in a lifetime experience sour by drinking plonk. | | | Beta testing a new signature.

| When I called them about corkage a couple of months ago, the answer was "$15 a bottle, bring whatever you want." | | | |

| JimmyV- First off can your business partners be my business partners, because I like how they roll.
Anyway, my advise would be to call off peak hours and try and speak with a manager/Somm. and get some insight on what the menu is leaning towards. It's a winter menu so that smacks of more meat and hearty dishes in my mind which leads to reds but I'm willing to bet if there was a bottle of white screaming drink me in your cellar there would be a course at the Lab which could accompany it. | Thanks for the information. Putting all of this together, what we will do is bring a whole bunch of stuff, and open whatever seems most appropriate. I suspect that we are going to make a lot of friends that night. | | | Beta testing a new signature.

Good plan. IIRC, they do not limit you to a given # of bottles. Mrs. TJ and I brought and drank two bottles between us as they told us the same thing dinwiddie indicated.
Also, feel free to get up and walk around when you are there and talk with Roberto Donna and all of his assistants. They are busy and you need to know to not get in the way (esp when they are busy), but they will talk to you, which is tres kewl. If this interests you, ask to be seated at the front of the room so you get the best view of the action.
The waitstaff there is a lot of fun too. | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com
