| Depends on several factors, rjs. What type of food would you prefer? As you know, the North End is primarily Italian and there are lots of great places you know you'll get a great meal.
If you want a steak (and a fairly impressive wine list) I'd recommend Grill 23.
Radius is another "hot" place that I've heard all good things about. Depending how high-end you want to go, there's always L'Espalier or Aujourd'Hui (in the Four Seasons). You mentioned you'd be dining alone, so my guess is you don't really want (or need) to go over the top. A few people in our wine club, and in this area, have also said good things about Mantra.
I had an awesome meal last Sunday at Aquitane in the South End - sort a French bistro influenced menu. Troquet, in the theater district, has an impressive by-the-glass list but I understand the food isn't much to write home about.
If you do end up in the North End, I'm sure you know about Mike's Pastry.
Depending on the night, I may be able to join you, if you'd be interested in that. No sense dining alone.
Be sure to pack your gloves, it's been COLD here as of late.

| A few months back, I had an incredible dinner at Clio, in the back Bay area. A little pricey (especially the wine list), but the food was well worth the $$. I would definitely go back. | | | |

| ok, this is slightly off topic.. but if you're there on wednesday and you want some booze and eye candy, there's a bar called "the place" (2 broad st, not too far from faneuil hall) on Wednesday nights they do this deal where it becomes " the library"
Long story short, I didn't assess their wine list because I was looking at all the bartenders dresed like britney spears in that school girl out fit. The male wait staff is all dressed like nerds which is sortof amusing. Crowd is a mix of largly college /20s aged guys and a few girls trying to compete with the bartenders.
All in all, it's a testosterone charged night, and if you're single don't expect to get a date there, but if you're alone in a city and want some amusement rather then rental movies in the hotel room, there are worse places.

| don't make me delete this thread!!! I think we've hit onto a my inability to descern gender from nicknames! As Mdriver will recall, I briefly though he was female! hope my comments weren't taken with any more than a grain of salt anyway, I'm married now and would never go to such a meat market! Other than there, I typically stay near the financial district and always seem to eat at touristy places that I wouldn't overly recommend. | | | |

| RawReds, Maybe your problem with discerning gender has to do with her title... Grape Truck Driver! | | | |

| I'd like it noted, for the record, that my offer was made before I knew the sex of rjs. I also feel that, having been made aware of this information, I would still have extended the same offer, regardless.
I don't consider what I wrote to be at all offensive and do not appreciate the inference of her husband "seeing this thread."
rjs, if you were at all offended, I apologize.

| I thought that was her picture! j/k
In LCC's defense, I believe his comment was more directed at my suggestion of place, and in no way reflecting on your offer to meet a friend with mutual interests.
having said that, I'm not talking anymore today, I keep getting into trouble.

| that's rough, those traders are a very sexist bunch (in my experience). That's not said in a hurtful way... they're just very boys-club-ish. | | | |

| I deal with traders fairly often. Usually I only have to deal with the Market Data types, but those traders, man, they can be a crazy bunch. And don't get me started about what they do to their pagers... | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com | |
