Anyone else starting to get out and enjoy the fall colors. This weekend we are heading up to Duluth, MN and beyond to check out the fall colors and beautiful scenery. After our day of hiking and exploring we will probably stop in at Bellisio's for a glass of wine and great meal.

Fall colors look exactly like Spring, Winter, and Summer down here in South Florida.

Seriously, I love Vermont and New England this time of year.

Going to Shenandoah this weekend, but it's still a bit early for foliage here this year.

You must not be near hurricane alley.

All we see are stalks of palms.
Oak trees shorn of leaves.
Broken limbs that display an ugly shade of brown.
Piles of limbs awaiting the trash man.

Sure would like to see some color.

Every thing looks the same here. I miss the season changes. The only thing that changes with the seasons is the surf.

only way to tell that it's fall out here is when the leaves in the vineyards turn and it gets cold in the morning.

A beautiful drive that I took a few years ago, the day after Thanksgiving, was on highway 49 between Nevada City and Placerville. The colors were spectacular, for a California fall at least.

Weather and foliage were spectacular in the mountains of Western Maine / Northern New Hampshire.

Among other new experience, our Memphian children got to see the Atlantic Ocean (and the local ferry to Peak's Island), mountains, peak foliage, and rocky mountain streams -- not to mention a portion of the Appalachian Trail -- for the first time this week. Also for the first time ... they got to climb a tree, by tentatively-but-surely adventuring into mature McIntosh apple trees to gather about 60 lbs of apples for the family.

The kids claimed they were bored, but they slept soundly each night ... and they're bragging about their adventures to their friends and neighbors now that they are home. That's gotta be a good sign, doesn't it?
Cheers, y'all

The trees in the flatlands are in the middle of changing right now.

However, I had a meeting in Vail today. There was still a little bit of gold from the Aspen, but most of the leaves are down already. Lots of snow above the 10-11K foot range. But at least I missed the winter driving conditions over Vail Pass on Tuesday.

One thing that I really do miss living here in S Florida is the fantastic falls in NE.

We used to hike the Long Trail in VT and the Appilician trail in NH about 3 - 4 weekends every fall before ski season started,

the colors, sky, and weather was fantastic. Many evenings we would be in the area of a great lodge, and we would stop in for a great dinner, wine, and sit by the fire.

For those hardy, I would suggest a hike up Mt Wash, Adams, and Jefferson, and stay at one of the AMC huts above the timber line. Exilerating views, and food. The companinship of thsoe staying there was always memorable.

Back to my green and brown.

Anyone in the Ashland/Medford/Jacksonville area? We're thinking about taking a weekend trip up and catch some plays and fall color. When is the color the best?

We're getting more and more fiery trees spotting through the woods here at the southern border of Ny/northern border of NJ.

FYI
Northern VT is peaked, so has most of the Shenendoah. VT will be in what we like to call stick season shortly. The coast of Maine is approaching peak as well and should be there in the next two weeks or less.

Fred,
Shenandoah has barely started to turn. It's a good couple weeks from peak.
