So, Future Mrs. Whiner, and a bunch of her relatives and SOs want to take a vacation to somewhere warm that we haven't all been to this winter and the current thought is the Dominican Republic. So, I've got a few questions...

1) Is it warm in the winter?

2) Is it nice/pretty/safe?

3) Are there things to do and see?

4) What is the nightlife like?

5) Can you reccomend an area/hotel? (re: hotel, we'd prefer somewhere very nice and all inclusive, if such a thing exists. We don't need Four Seasons quality, but we would like Westin quality)

thanks!

Whiner....you should know to ask TravelRep these questions......

Although I've never been to the D.R., I know something about it. There's a very well known resort called Casa de Campo. I believe that they have hotel accommodations and possibly villas for use. They also have one or two PGA rated golf courses and I think a casino. The area that's most popular with the all inclusive market through charter companies such as Apple Vacations and Vacation Express is Punta Cana. This is on the eastern side of the island and the resort area is similar to Cancun in that the government decided to create a tourist vacation spot and voila, here comes Punta Cana. There are a lot of good all inclusives there but since I don't sell the island, I'm not sure which resorts are there. I'd suggest going to a travel agency and seeing if they have a brochure on the D.R. If you see a hotel that you're interested in, send me a PM and I'll let you know what I know about the property.

As for the weather being warm in the winter, yes, it should be nice and warm. The only safety/security concerns I've heard of have to do with people going into bad neighborhoods of Santo Domingo. Other than that, I think that you should be okay. I can't really speak to what's to see and do there other than golfing, swimming, water sports, etc. Not sure how/if you can visit historical sights. The resorts in Punta Cana will have evening entertainment.

Hope this helps and that you and the future Mrs. Whiner are enjoying SF.
