Last night was the opening night for a.k.a. Bistro in St Helena.  This is the crew who ran Stomp in Calistoga a few years ago.  They are in the old Keller's Market space on Main Street.  Redoing that building for a restaurant took years longer than anyone anticipated, but it is finally done.  It is a great space with a large bar area and an open gathering/seating area (in addition to all the tables, of course) which will likely make it a popular place. Being the first night, they didn't have all the menu items available, but what we had was excellent.  The menu runs the spectrum from Reuben sandwiches and burgers to pasta to Fillet Mignon and a gorgeous Pork Chop. They have a side dish of Portabello Fries - don't ask, just order it. Or two.

I'll wait a couple of weeks before really giving them a review, but good so far!

I 'll be interested in trying it since it is so close to my house. I have to say though after looking in the other night during one of there soft openings, it looked light a fancy cafeteria inside. Nice argon bar system with lots of taps to make any btg program jealous.

We had a great meal at Farm (Carneros Inn) last night.  (The inn and restaurant are part of the Plumpjack group.) This is the 3rd time or so we've been there and it has been good every time.  It's beautifully decorated and has a wonderful outside (but covered) patio for drinks or snacks where you sit around huge gas fire pits.  There's even a nice yard for kids to run around or for a game of bocce.  Food and service have always been fantastic.

The one drawback is it is a bit far down Valley for us to trek to from St Helena but it is perfect as a stop when we drive home from St Helena to the East Bay.

A few quick notes:
- I continue to be impressed with the level and quality of cooking at the Restaurant at Meadowood. If you are into fine dining, it should be on your must visit list
- Jason is doing a terrific job building the wine list at REDD. He has some excellent burgs at reasonable prices
- We have now had several meals at a.k.a. in St Helena. An eclectic menu ranging from sandwiches and burgers to fine entrées. $8 corkage fee plus a very nice wine list. Pricing comparable to Cindy's Backstreet kitchen.
