Great idea! I would also add theBordeaux cru bourgeois primer, even though it was not in the wine learning section.

Edit: oops, I just realized you already added it. Sorry!

Let's add:

Chablis

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

Chateauneuf du Pape

Port

Priorat

and Malbec

BTW: Will this really help? Isn't it easier to just make a search in the Wine Learning Center?

that's one of the primary reasons why i wanted to do this.

There is so much information "hidden" in these boards that it would take you quite some time to find them. Especially if you're knew and trying to learn something new on a wine region. Like I'm always trying to do.

Rieslingfan has just written what has to be the clearest and most exhaustive guide to understanding German wine labels.German wine label primer.

Highlights:

  • A walk-through of a sample German wine label.
  • Understanding pre-1971 labels for when you buy mature Auslese, BA, etc. Remember, vintages as far back as the 1920s are still drinking.
  • The "prädikat" classification system: kabinett, spätlese, auslese, etc.
The great thing about his guide is that he gives the exact definitions, e.g. minimum öchsle requirement for a Kabinett is 70 for the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer and Nahe but 73 for the Pfalz, Rheingau and Rheinhessen, etc. Normally these are hard to find (as in any information about German wine definitions).
  • The exact requirements for a wine to be "trocken" versus "halbtrocken" etc.
  • What do those stars and long capsules mean?
  • Some labelling tricks and exceptions, like calling a spätlese a kabinett and why this is done.

Man we need something that talks about all the Rhone variations. I'll go post on the CdP and northern Rhone threads, but....

Which ones are northern rhone and which southern? Stuff like Hermitage and Gigondas, etc?

Why, Tj... start a thread asking for help, and I'm sure many of us will be happy to help you out.

It can be a Southern Rhone primer or a primer for all the Rhone AOCs... I don't know. See what kind of help you need and ask some questions. It will be easier to help that way.
