I have read a couple of times that this vintage is the best vintage ever.

My question is, if this is so, did the high quality of this vintage is going to be reflected on inexpensive Bordeaux wines like Rothschild’s Mounton Cadet?

The answer is a definite 'Yes'. The quality of wine for your money has actually raised with 2000 Bordeaux even though the top end prices have escalated. To get a 90 point wine now you could easily pay under $20 when you go to the lesser Right Bank appellations. Try out Cotes du Castillon, the satellites Lalande de Pomerol, Montagne St Emilion and Puisseguin St Emilion then there's Premieres Cotes du Bordeaux and Listrac. Some fabulous wines from each of these areas without having to shell out for Petrus or Ch Margaux.

I have wines for 2000 from all of the above except Listrac (oh and Petrus and Ch Margaux ) as well as some St Emilion Grand Crus and Pomerols. I am willing to crack open the cheaper ones to give an indicator and the Cotes du Castillons have proven fabulous if young. No attempts at any others yet but I doubt there will be disappointment in the KillerB household

Bad winemakers make bad wine regardless of vintage.

agree with Jones......bad wine can and is made in good vintages.....all a good vintage means is that many winemakers had success.

This is very interesting.

I was reading (and correct me if I'm wrong) that by law the amount of wine that can be sell or produce as been first (or second) growth is limited and that the rest is sell as "jug" wine in France.

I'm wondering if some of these "jug" wine make it to the US as "Cheap" Bordeaux.

I think I getting a liking of Old World Wines.
