I am expecting a shipment from SFO area to Portland, OR. The weather is going to be high 70th in Northern CA, and in mid 80th in Oregon. I paid for Ground. It takes 2 days for wine to arrive .

Am I risking that the wine may get spoiled?

If I put the wine in my cooler, will the wine be already "affected" by the exposure to over 70 F?

Thanks!

If the wine is cooked, it will be cooked. Putting it in the cooler afterwards won't "heal" the wine.

As far as whether to ship Next Day, it would depend on the value of the wine, in my opinion. If we're talking about expensive wines, it's probably worth the little bit extra to ensure proper shipping.

So the wether's going to be in the high 70s and mid 80s. What do you think the temp will be in the back of that truck on the highway in the sun? Next day or nothing! I'd wait til Fall if possible.

I called and asked to put the wine on hold.

However, I recieved some wine today, that ordered before the weather turned warm here. According to UPS the wine arrived yesterday to the warehouse at 5pm. The wine was delivered to me today at 5pm!!!!! Sometimes UPS delivers in the morning; NO LUCK. The temperature outside is 85F. I opened the box and checked the wine: feels that the wine is around 73-75F. No signs of leakage.

What do I do now? It is Bordeaux 2000. Should I opened one of the less expensive ones and try it (Cap De Faugeres)? How does the "cooked" wine taste, so I would know ?

Advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

If the bottles appear in good shape with no signs of leakage and they were cool to the touch I would stow them away and not worry about.

Thanks!

Well, I learned my lesson: no wine purchase untill October.

Even, if I order wine with Next day delivery, there is no guarantee that the wine arrives in the morning...

Yesterday and today the thermometer didn't even come close to 80. Temps should be in the low 70s for the next week.

You're fine. Stick them in the cellar and let them rest.
