I took dposner up on his mixed case of Kracher. However, I've never tasted any of juice below #7 and the case includes wine all the way down to #1.
Are all the wines dessert style? I noticed the #3 is a Chard.

If it has a #, it's supposed to be sweet. That includes the low #s and the Chardonnay. His dry wines are the Illmitz and some red blends. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The lower the number the less sweetness and/or body. They are all sweet. The lowest I've tasted is a #3 (I forget what year).
IMO these wines should be served all by themselves as dessert (especially the higher numbers). One thing you can count on; they are all delicious.

Ditto. They are all dessert wines. Even the #1 is usually thicker and sweeter than a lot of other dessert wines out there.
I'm a big fan of the Muscat and Scheurebe versions.

One thing to note when enjoying the Kracher BAs and TBAs at the end of a meal is the varying alcohol content. The lower numbered ones have much less RS (though they're still plenty sweet) and usually significantly higher alcohol than the higher numbered ones. The range goes from around 5 to 14% alc/vol. The only Kracher wine that I haven't enjoyed was a #1 (I don't recall whether it was a Traminer or Schuerebe, and it was either '99 or '00) that showed a lot of heat on the finish. IMHO, anything numbered 6 or over is sure to be an absolute delight. The Grande Cuvees have been consistently spectacular.

Don't "dessert wines". Call them "sweet wines".
One can drink them with many other food or other times than dessert!

Absolutely, davidn!
One person's "dessert" is another person's breakfast.
