Hello, I just posted a tasting note request for a Vacqueyras. If you haven't had the specific wine I'm requesting, perhaps you can tell me a little bit about the style. I'm really at a loss here. Much to my shame and regret, I've not focused too much time on French wine (gasp..horror..!) It one of my New Years resolutions.

Cheers!

After Gigondas this is the second Cote Du Rhone village to be awarded it's own appelation in 1990. Most of the wine is similar to a super charged Cotes du Rhone. Produced also as a red, white or rose.
Mostly the wine make up is a blend of Grenache (has tobe at least %50) , syrah, mourvedre and cinsault.

The wine is made in the communes of Vacqueyras and Sirrians between Gigondas and Beaumes de Venise.

As a style Vacqueyras tends to be more rustic than Gigondas.

You will find that Vacqueyras was a very similar flavor profile to Chateauneuf du Pape, Earthy flavors of spice and herbs mixed with ripe fruit. Much like It's cousin Gigondas, this is a region that has seperated itself from the simple wines that would be classified as Cote du Rhone Villages to gain their own AC status in 1990.

I had a '00 Perrin Vacqueyras last month. It was a good straightforward Rhone, but hardly noteworthy.

TCK,
I hit it by accident to!!! I had some other stuff to write, which I was going to put up about some good producers.

J-B,
I think a great deal Perrin's wines are fairly boring. They seem to be one dimensional, nothing wrong with them just boring. With the exception of Beaucastel that is.

The two best producers of Vacqueyras are probably Domaine la Fourmone and Domaine le Couralou. Domaine Verquiere also stands out amongst the producers of this small Rhone appelation.

Great information everyone. Thanks, I really appreciate it. I've tried the wine, and I think it's really nice. Tremendous QPR. I'll post TN soon.

Cheers.
