2006 Cono Sur Cabernet Sauvignon Vision Maipo Valle
Popped and poured. Deep purple hue. Initial aromas were of earth and sulfur (rather funky). Medium to full bodied, big, bold flavors of black cherry, cassis, and loamy earth plus vegetal hints of cedar and stem on the moderately complex finish (although there is a little heat). Sharp tannins. Over time the funky odors blew off and the fruit really started to take center stage...really smells like cherry cough syrup or cough drops with interesting notes of eucalyptus (The cure for your cold!). Will improve with 6-12 months in the cellar.
All in all, better than the 2005 and a great value in Cab - What was this, something like $9.99 at retail? If you love Chilean wines as much as I do then be sure not to miss out on Cono Sur.
Vine 88.
Edit: Was still strong on day's 2 and 3. Pretty amazing for such a modestly priced wine.
