| Mendoza Argentina, 13.5% alcohol
Dark ruby red, edges not entirely bright, but no signs of any aging. Sweet chocolately dark fruit and fig nose. Also a very sweet palate, suggesting a wine with some age on it. Flavors are very well integrated, actually making it hard to pick any out. However, still chocolatey with just a big mushy swirl of fruit, oak, and some mineral qualities on the finish.
This is a fun wine to drink, keeps one interested. Decant one hour for best enjoyment. I think this is a little past it's peak fruit wise, but does still have some tannin and enough acidity to help this wine last longer, but it's definitely a drink now.

| Brad, I also thought this was a pretty good wine last time I had it (I would agree with your 88 pt score), even though 2000 was not a very good vintage for Altos Las Hormigas. You should really try the 01 or 02 Reservas - both are much better imho. | | | |

| Thanks Mars, I'll probably try to track a couple down. I'm really falling in love with the malbecs from down there. | | | If you drink wine, you get smarter.... | |

| Well, I had bought two bottles of this, and just scrapped this out of the cellar while looking for my Yacochuya and figured I had better drink up.
I was right... this is past it's prime. Super sweet oak, low acidity, fruit on its way out, tannins are gone.... not quite a dumper down the sink, but I won't finish half the bottle which is rare. This was cellared very well since purchase, so if you have em, drink up now or feed to the relatives...
Guess I should've listened to my original TN. | | | If you drink wine, you get smarter.... | |
