| - 2006 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Catena - Argentina, Mendoza (11/24/2008)
Popped and poured. Deep ruby hue. Tight at first, it took about 2 hours for this wine to fully open and reveal nice aromas of black cherry, earth, violets, and stone. Medium-plus body, a rush of ripened black fruits, ripe currant, a touch of dried fruit, plus a distinct minerality all work together in harmony on the palate, the tannins firm and slightly chalky. The fruit is bright and vibrant on the nice finish due to refreshing, almost heightened acidity derived from Argentina's unique climate......in fact, this would be a great red to pour for the acid lovers. Due to the tannins, acidity, and fruit, this wine should have a nice life ahead of it. (90 pts.)
