• 2004 Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Marqués de Casa Concha - Chile, Central Valley, Maipo Valley, Puente Alto (10/18/2008)
  Popped and poured. Dark purple hue. Intense nose, filled with herbs, dark cherry, "earth-funk," and a distinct, almost stoney, note of minerals. Medium-plus body. On the palate the distinctive flavors are intense.....even eccentric and borderline awkward, the black fruits awash in herbaceous flavors intermingled with tar, earth, and the same stoney flavor from the nose. The tannins are big and well-rounded, helping to carry the flavors through on the long finish.
  
  Really, this is a unique wine that I tasted with my family, everyone in agreement that while possessing many unique characteristics, those same traits can also come off as confusing and somewhat divisive. I happened to enjoy it and will open my last bottle sometime next year. (88 pts.)
